I just bought some fleece, planning on washing it tomorrow, but won't get to do anything until the 21st, my sister has a sewing machine and she's not available to help with project until then. I printed instructions and am bring a pouch I had already purchased to copy from (I wouldn't have a clue otherwise).

What I need is plastic hooks, maybe some plastic chains or links (small size, not the large chain). I was wondering where people who made things got theirs from.

Also, wondering if anyone uses plastic shower rings for making toys and hanging pouches & stuff.

I may go to Michael's craft store tomorrow, I went to Joanns today to get the fleece, they only had metal lanyard hooks, I'd rather use plastic.

Could anyone tell me the best place to get the plastic hooks & chains, in case Michaels doesn't have any either?

I use the baby c links from toys r us for everything. They're easy to hook to the cage, fit through thicker loops, easily strong enough, and I've never had a problem with the gliders unhooking them.

I use C links from my local Teachers Supply Store.

I have searched ebay for "bird toys, or bird toy making supplies" and you'll get a lot of good stuff.

Here's a pouch making tutorial that is awesome. I think many of us have learned from this. With this concept you can make a lot of glider things like corner hammocks and bridges.

I get the c links from oriental trading and the plastic chain from birdsnest...birdsnest is fantastic to work with and ships out very fast. Not to mention their chain was the cheapest around. Shower curtain rings are not the best for hooking to a cage...they are big and hard to work with.

TJones, if you PM me your address I can send you a bunch of C-links. I purchased them from Oriental trading and I don't think I'll ever make enough toys to use the whole bag :)

Thanks everyone, I love that birdsnest site and will most likely order from them, but may just do that search for bird toy making and see what all else is out there. Had no clue to look at bird toy making, I was just looking at craft stores and on-line craft stuff. It's a whole new world out there!

This is a great video. I recently used it in an attempt to make pouches for my day care kids' stuffed gliders.

However, I need a tutorial on how to use a sewing machine instead!

Good luck in your pouch making! I hope it is more successful than mine was! That shouldn't be too difficult!

The video was very informative, thanks. I have all my material and those little rings, taiwangirlie is very kindly sending me c-links I can use to attach to side of cage or a hanging tree-top nest I made for the girls. I'm trying to keep things multi-functonal for more versatility. I won't be able to make the pouches until the 21st though. My sister has a sewing machine and is an excellent sewer, so she'll be helping me and can't until then. I do have printed directions, but seeing the video helps with the visual aspect so I can show my sister how it's supposed to look.

I was at Michaels (craft store) and found some small plastic chain, they didn't have green so i bought black. They had these plastic serving baskets $1.00 marked half price, so I picked up 2, they're like a yellow/green, I think that a dark green would look better, but they had what they had, and I wasn't really expecting to get anything like that at the time, so. I weaved my light green fleece strips that I had through the basket weave, because I was thinking the edges may be sharp, and decided to let pieces, tied together, on the outside of basket, I'm going for a leafy look, so it looks like a tree-top, sort of.

I looked at some bird toy supply websites and I found plastic chain in green, I can get 2 different sizes, which would be good for different things. The larger, 1.5" links for stringing across the cage maybe instead of those wood perches would be nice, but I'm still holding out for a more naturalistic look, so I'm undecided on that. The smaller .75" links would probably be good for hanging toys, being a little smaller, I feel it won't crowd the cage as much. I really like the look, ease and versatility of these plastic chains, I just can't make up my mind on the sizes and how much of which to get. Another thing is I noticed it is sold by the foot, I like that idea, but how would break that up? I'd have to cut the links, not sure what to use for that.

sorry this seems long, I'm just brain storming here, trying to get it all together.

Is that correct that the 1.5" is a large link, do they measure the link length?

You can also get the C links from a store called the School Box. They are called Link N Learn links. (MUCH cheaper if you buy them in the store vs on line.) $16.99 for a bucket of 500

Thanks, I'll look for a teacher supply store near by. I was thinking I'm not sure I'd want to order chains without being able to check them out first, after some posts I've read.

Ok, so this Saturday I'll be making my first glider pouch. I believe I'm ready to go between the materials, instructions and even watched the video on making them. I have all the fleece washed and ready, but decided to take all of it and put it the hamper with my hubby's and mine's clothes to get our scent on them. We are still working on the bonding, I think they know our scent, but was thinking it might help move things along if they start to take to the stuff with our scent and mix it with their own. Is this a correct way of thinking?
