I have been scouring the internet, including old threads over on GC,... I was actually reading a thread over their and the topic of "Darcys' Diet" &/or the "ENSURE" diet were brought up.

I'm hoping someone who is familiar with it can clear things up for me.... I'm not finding a "recipe" so to speak. I'm finding Protein, F/V, & some Ensure.

Is that it? Or am I missing something?

I am not currently feeding a "recognized" diet. I am basically just offering nutritious, well rounded items in all of the food groups. Actually I seem to be feeding as Terry does, unbeknownst to me until I saw the thread entitled "Kazkos Diet." I agree with him, it's not a diet, it's a feeding plan.

Again, for about the past month or more...about the time mine stopped eating their "recognized diet," I began giving them about 2tbsp. of Vanilla Ensure. Just to give me some piece of mind that they were getting some nutrients and vitamins when they wouldn't eat their dinner.

Then I stumble upon this "Darcys' Diet" thread and again, unbeknownst to me, I think I may be feeding this diet.

It's not like I sought this out and chose it. I'm just feeding how I feel I need to feed and it seems very similar which of course makes me want to research it and get any additional information that may be benefical.

Thanks.

Do you really need to feed a 'recognised' diet? Sounds to me like your guys are still getting everything they need. You're feeding fresh fruits/veg, you're giving a protein source. They're still eating abit of HPW mix aren't they? What part of their diet are you currently concerned about them missing?x

No, I am past the "must feed a recognized diet or I'll kill my gliders" phase.

I offer them everything but like most people, I have a hard time getting them to touch their fruits/veggies. I no longer feed HPW as the diet mixture but I do still have the HPW Supplement which I sprinkle on their F/V but again, it does no good when they won't eat it.

I liken feeding them to feeding a toddler. I am currently offering all the good stuff but I also give the Ensure to fill in the holes so to speak, because they will definately lick that dish clean.

I just know that the people who "create" these "diets" put a lot of work into them and have tweeked them to be as beneficial as they can be, so if I am feeding some semblance of the Darcy Diet, any additional information may or may not be helpful.

For example, I give them some Ensure probably 4-5 nights a week. Should this be modified?

I give regular Vanilla Ensure... Should I switch to a different one?

Those are the things I'm wondering about. I'm not saying I'm gonna change what I'm doing, but if someone that is familiar with this type of feeding plan can offer advice I am more than willing to take it into consideration.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! That is a big help.

As I said, it wasn't my intent to feed "Darcys' diet" but I guess I am. The only thing I don't do is add Calcium but that is the Ensure I use and laughably I even put their crock with the Ensure in it in a different cage.

(I have 3 linked by tunnels, kitchen in one, foraging in the next and play fun in the 3rd. I place the Ensure crock in cage 2 next to their water bottle.)

I probably still won't call it Darcys Diet since as Kazko mentioned with his "diet," it's not a diet it's a feeding plan. His and Darcys' are basically the same aside from she adds the Ensure to fill in the holes as I do.

Several owners here use Ensure or used to use Ensure in their diets for the calcium boost and because well their gliders ate it versus other things with calcium. As for Darcy's diet, I would not recommend adding any extra calcium such as powder or human grade calcium to the Ensure or the rest of the glider's food. Sugar gliders are very small animals and are sensitive to having too much of a certain vitamin in their body. And the Ensure already has loads of calcium.

Yeah, as I said, I don't add additional Ca and I personally don't plan to.

Val made me feel so much better about my worries of them getting HLP from Ca deficiency.

I know I give them a very healthy variety of foods so I don't worry so much anymore.
