Very sorry for your loss.
Again, for those of you reading this...this is why you have to have your emergency vet and consult numbers set up BEFORE something happens. Please, in the memory of Kadi, if you do not have an emergency plan do it today! Call an emergency vet and take the consult #s to them. They don't have to have glider knowledge...they just have to be wiling to use the numbers in an emergency for you. I think too many people think that an ER vet has to have glider knowledge. In an emergency ANY vet will do. Many times just giving sub Q fluids will keep a glider alive to get through the night.
I am truly sorry for your loss of Kadi and I hope that this will help others.

Thank you everyone this has been very hard on me. it will take a long time to heal from this. and i dont think i will be doing a Necropsy Effort but i will look into it when i get home. i start my first day of work today so i will see later. thanks again. and please AGAIN i dont want to see anything about how i could have done better. vets around here hardly even know what a glider is much less how to treat one.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kadi Ann will be dearly missed.
On a side note, I think that TheHomermomma was trying to contribute something that could prove helpful to glider owners in the future if they happen to come across this thread. Whether it applies to your specific circumstance or not... having the information for ANY vet is always a good idea. The Sub Q fluids are something that get administered to dogs, cats, etc... and can easily be administered to a Glider in an emergency - regardless of whether or not the vet has any experience with gliders. And taking that one step further and keeping the contact information on hand for an experienced exotic vet, so that the 'inexperienced' vet can call them on your behalf... is an even better idea.
Obviously nothing can be done to change the outcome of your situation... but hopefully someone will read this thread and understand how quickly things like this can happen. And see how important it is to take the precautions mentioned above.

Again, I offer my deepest condolences to you in this difficult time. :(

I'm not trying to step on any toes here. I just feel for Kadi's mom and understand she just needs consoling right now, and not to have her situation exploited by dishing out advise for the future. Reminder posts of having that information on hand could be done periodically on a separate designated post. It's important enough to have it's own topic title anyway.

You're not stepping on any toes here. And I agree the topic *is* important enough to have it's own thread. Keeping in mind that this is a difficult period for Kadi's mom... I was trying to offer my condolences while at the same time defending TheHomermomma's comment, because I was afraid that Kadi's mom may have taken a well intended comment out of context.

Thank you Glidermommy
TJones, The issue that I am trying to address is that owners will not take to heart a thread (of which there are MANY) telling them to have emergency plans in place because "it will never happen to them". This thread that shows that Kadi's poor mom was stuck with no er vet and no one who would see Kadi is MUCH more of a lesson to the OTHER owners who will read this and see how quickly you can have a very bad situation with your glider. I feel terrible for Kadi's mom. Really, really I do. But if any other glider owner can learn from her situation then maybe Kadi's death can help. I'm not condemning or judging or anything. I'm just trying to help other owners who have passed by all the plethora of information that has been put out by experienced glider owners to realize that they have to have a plan. I'd hazard to guess that 90% or MORE of glider emergencies take place after 7PM.
Again I don't mean any disrespect to Kadi's mom. I feel for her and losing a glider is a terrible thing and worse when you feel like your hands are tied and you are not able to get help. I just want to help others not have that same situation.

I'm also going to offer my condolences as this is heart-breaking and skip the rest of what I'm going to say if you'd like to stop right here. Nibbler has also had health issues. (which is why you had been to the vet in the last month) I feel like you owe it to him to get a necropsy on Kadi. Maybe it would help NIBBLER. I'm not going to start a separate thread about that. Her passing could possibly save his life. I am sincerely sorry for your loss.

No one has said ONE nasty thing and no one doubts she loves her pets. No one claimed to be perfect and at the same time, no one judged in this thread either. Everyone has shown nothing but kindness and offered condolences. The only ADVICE offered was also IN NO WAY mean or disrespectful. It was offered in the best interest of her remaining glider that has had known health issues. Your post was the only one so far that has nothing to do with this thread.

It would be nice if this could actually be kept on topic for Lacy without dragging in unnecessary comments and non-existent drama.

We are ALL sorry and our heart breaks...especially those of us that HAVE been in this situation before.
