I am a new Sugar Glider Mom I love my new family members, I have raed almost everything I can read on them but I still have unanswerd question so I am asking for help! Please !!!!
My first question is do I need to have a USDA licensse to have them ?

My female has a Joey, she was playing in her cage and I seen it I dont think it is sopost to be oop yet just becouse I have not seen it agian since that day. Can I still hold her and let her play with me ? Is there any thing that I am sopost to do ? Is there any thing that she needs to help her take care if the joey? How long dose it usualy take for joey to come oop ? and when can I start holding the joey when it is oop?

You only need a usda license if you have 4 or more breeding females. So no with just the one mommy you don't need a license. Do you have the daddy too? If the mom just got seperated from the dad she may cannibalize the baby. That is just a warning because single moms don't do well on their own. She will need a lot of help from you if the daddy is not in the picture.
You will often see the baby oop and go back in before they are officially detached. It will only be a few days now until the baby is out of pouch and detached from mom's nipple. At that point you can pick it up for a few seconds but immediately give it back to mom. By about a week old you can hold it for a few minutes. However this all changed if daddy is not involved. Then when joey is detached mom needs you to babysit for a bit a few times a day for her to go potty and eat and get some exercise. Mom can usually pack the joey with her for about a week then it is just to big for her to eat or run with.
Mom needs to be on a very good diet. What diet are you feeding now? HPW is what I use for my pregnant and nursing moms with a bit of brisky's booster milk added to it to help with milk production. You need to also have a glider rejectio kit on hand. Hopefully someone will come along and have the link to suz's glider site for rejected joeys...You need to read it now and be prepared just in case.

I am Living in the state of Georgia, I do have daddy too I got them as a pair about 3 days ago so they are very new to me and my family and we love them so much already. I am feeding them right now fresh fruits, and some veggies like carrits, I have boiled an egg and feed it to mom, dad I dont think has had any of it, I have found that they love strawberries, I was told by the person I got them from to feed them Trail Mix, but the more I have read the more I did not like that very much so I mix it with it and they seem to like the fresh stuff more...

The only thing with having them in Georgia that I'm aware of is you do have to have proof that you purchased them from a breeder that has a USDA license. I would assume that would mean you would also need a license to continue breeding them, but you would have to check locally on that.

Trail mix! To much salt and stuff they don't need. Have you checked out the diet section on here? Go throught the diet list and pick one that will work for your family. Are you sure she didn't cannibalize the joey? The joey disappeared after she was playing with it?

Skyfire, I have STOPED feeding them trail mix, I have been doing so much reading on them in the past few days that I have taken a little from this and a little from that on feeding them the only thing I have not seen is the "NECTER" any where that I have read, so what and where can I find the necter at ? I will look at the web sight that u sent me. Thank you so much for your HELP....

JeremyLexie, I am not 100% sure that she did not cannibalize the joey, But she dose have two lumps in here pouch still, so I was thinking when I was working on the bonding with them lastnight that maybe she was in the process have having them... I do now think I have TWO new babies just becouse of the two lumps in her pouch...

When I got them I did not know they where a breading par so I am new to it all.

Please look at the generally accepted glider diets and choose one to feed your gliders. Most of these recipes are the 'nectar' part of the glider diet and provide protein, appropriate amounts of calcium, fat, fiber and sugars for your glider. They are all fed with fruits and vegetables (fresh or frozen) daily. I have links on my web page to help you find the original instructions for these diets.

Momma needs to be well nourished to provide milk for the growing joeys.

You will soon be the proud owner of 4 sugar gliders. Please have your male neutered ASAP. You will quickly have more gliders than you can handle if he remains intact.

You will also need to have any male joeys neutered before they are 4 months old to prevent inbreeding with mom if you keep the joeys.

If you do choose to re-home the joeys, keep in mind that although you do not need a USDA License to have gliders in Georgia (and you do not qualify for a license with only one breeding female) you cannot legally sell the joeys to anyone living in Georgia. Georgia residents must only purchase gliders from a USDA Licensed Breeder or Broker. (a typical catch 22 law)

I hope you will keep them together as a family colony. Enjoy watching your joeys grow up. Just make sure to neuter all the boys and you will be fine.
