Hi All, it's been a while. I have noticed my male glider has become aggressive with my female so I wanted to pick your brains. He will lunge at her from across the cage even though there is plenty of food for the both of them. They are about 3 years old and this has just started happening. I did some searching around but didn't find anything specific to aggression starting later with a bonded pair. Luckily I have an extra cage and supplies so I've separated them for tonight. Any thoughts?

I was JUST about to post a topic on the SAME thing. My male is bigger than my female and even though they don't "fight" he will pull food out of her hands and because she's so docile, she'll let him. I worry she isnt getting her full meal. I am interested as well with whatever tips people have.

Thanks!

piratektty, my boy has always been the skinny one and my girl is chunky. Today I'm going to make a couple glider kitchens with a hole on each end to see if that helps. I've read a couple posts that suggest this. Hopefully we'll get more feedback today. Keep me posted on your two! :)

JeremyLexie, I haven't tried that but when I put them back together I definitely will. They have always been great together. Now my male will go down to the food dish, grab a chunk of vegetable and run up the side of the cage to eat it and when he sees the female go to the dish, he will pounce from across the cage to keep her from it. I'm thinking a vet visit for both may be in order but since it's the weekend I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I know food aggression is pretty common but I just think it's weird that this has developed after several years with no problems.

Actually, my male became very food aggressive after 2 years - out of the blue. So it's not that uncommon for it to develope later. They scared the crap out of me the one night. They had never ever fought so I didn't know what was going on.
I was given the advice to add another food dish up high in the cage, and to start feeding them an hour earlier than normal (prior to them waking up) - this worked. It had something to do with convincing the hoarder that there would always be food. The aggression tapered off a little each day and after about 3-4 days everything was fine - and after a few weeks I was able to go back to normal feeding time.

What food are you feeding? Have you changed their food at all recently?

My food plan has remained the same - hpw with fruits and veggies. i think he's just bully. He eats faster than her. They can both have the same size fruit and he'll always finish his first then run to grab whats left of hers out of her hand Thanks for the tip renee. I will try that
