Hi everyone.

As some of you may know, I have decided to switch my newly acquired glider from pellets to HPW. His previous owners just fed him the pellets, so I'd really like to help the little guy out diet wise.

Anyways, I purchased the HPW starter/tester kit from The Pampered Glider. He absolutely LOVES the HPW. I've only fed it for 2 nights so far, but each time he licks his little bowl clean!

What I noticed though is that last night he was extremely energetic... way more so than I have ever seen him before. He shares my bedroom, and has never been a hindrance to my sleep. However, last night he was so active that he actually woke me up a few times!

Do you guys think its the new diet giving him new found energy and vigor? Or is it too soon to see the effects of the new diet?

I think you're right on the money.

If you sat and ate chips/ding dongs/ice cream all weekend...how would you feel Sunday night?

Now spend a couple days eating fresh fruit/some salad/a nice healthy diet... how are you gonna feel by Wed.?

That baby is loving life right now! I'm not reading that he has a cage mate so make sure you put plenty of toys, foraging activities in his cage....he needs to have a way to isolate that new energy into something productive. You don't want him getting bored from lack of stimulation and begin over grooming or SMing. (and get him a friend soon )

I think it's possible being the second night that he is feeling more energized by a more substantial diet, and could also be part of his adjusting to his new home combined. I don't know how long you had him.

My girls love HWP as well, we use the original, they were a little chunky when we got them. Lulu is still a little chunky, she is less active than Skadoosh, who runs on the wheel like crazy every night. Skadoosh as already started looking more normal sized, I wish Lulu would run on the wheel.

This Thursday will be 2 weeks with him.

He's nowhere near bonded with me yet, but there have been what I'm taking for good signs. The big one being that a few nights ago he started barking and as soon as I called out to him he stopped. I think maybe he was feeling insecure and wanted to know if I was still around!

Glad the diet is making him feel good. I'm gonna have to look into getting one of those stealth/silent wheels... he was running like crazy last night and kept me and my boyfriend awake!!!

If you have the white, tube insert that goes over the axel of your Wodent Wheel, your glider is safe. If you do not have one, you should take it out of your cage and order one from www.transoniq.com. I have been using these wheels safely for six years with absolutely no issues, but you do have to be sure you have all of the correct parts for your wheel to make it safe!

I've really been toying around with buying a new, quieter wheel. The ones I saw at Petco had no axle running across them like mine does, so maybe that's the quietest and SAFEST choice.

The OP of that thread said they had the white insert in place and had been using the Wodent safely for 2 yrs. when this happened.

Heck, I myself had a Wodent for playtime and Zoe loved running on it,...but after that, I'm not willing to take the chance. She curls her tail all the way over until it touches her back...IMO that just makes her more vulnerable. Mine went into the trash.

No, the wheels at Petco are DANGEROUS...much more so than the Wodent. If you are wanting a quieter, safe wheel, take a look at the Stealth wheels, custom cruisers, or some of the others out there. Seriously, the Wodent is NOT dangerous with the correct pieces...you just need to have the loose, white tube axel cover.

Could you explain why the Petco wheels are more dangerous? As far as I know they carry the Stealth wheels?

I didn't think they carried Stealth wheels. I know that gliders' tails HAVE been ripped off with the Silent Spinners that they carry. I'm sorry, I thought you were referring to the Silent Spinners, or one of those type of wheels. That's all I've ever seen here in Michigan at Petco and Petsmart.
