So I have very small 8 week? old glider. Finally got her eating some blended fruits and she likes avocado. I was just told avocado is not good for animals and i tried to google search but I haven't come up with anything? Does any one else have any references?

Never heard of this. I know it's fatty so we give it sparingly, but mine love it and I've never had an issue.
Please let us know if you are able to find any information. I don't want to feed something that could harm them.

i'm pretty sure it is good except for the fat, but i don't know if it is too much for a baby glider's stomach to handle. I would stick with some basic fruits like apples and grapes and a baby form of a diet like baby bml.

I too have read it is safe but high in fat. I fed my little one a nice slice tonight to keep his body weight up I swear the guy doesn't stop going at night. Ive fed it before like once every two weeks or so. I hope it isn't harmful

Ok. Due to the high fat content, avacado should not be given too much. Once a week is ok. My own exotic vet as approved this. Even though it is good fat, too much can become bad. My 3 gliders were very picky about food. I found a great solution. Gerber baby food. It does does not have any added bad things. Such as onion powder and such. Only natural sugars and flavors. No food coloring or artificial flavors. All very bad. Mine eat the fruit, veggies and meat dishes. And plenty of options to keep a glider happy. The same foods over and over will bore them and they will quit eating. I allowed my guys to try all natural honey from my fingers during bonding period. They liked it so much that I could add a very small amount to the baby food to lure them to eat. Finally progress and very healthy and great weight. Giving them sweet will tempt them to eat variety of food. Easier to keep baby food in stock than making my own puree each day. But I do still give them the fresh atuff.

Sugar gliders need a staple, bml, hpw, etc..

It is not true that they will not eat if they don't have a variety either. They are living creatures that need sustenance to live. They will not just stop eating because they get the same food. They might prefer a variety and get a little snobby about it on occasion,.but of they get hungry enough, they well eat. I, too, have heard avocado is ok sparingly but not sure I ever saw an actual reference for that. Mine have never had it. I hate it so I don't buy it.

I feed it more than once a week. I have 2 gliders on the small side so i like to feed it and they love it. It is in their normal food rotation. And ive had two joeys get weaned from my female and they took avocado fine.

This web page has a list of calcium to phosphorous ratios, which is really helpful when picking out your fresh fruits and veggies for the week. Avocado doesn't have a particularly high calcium content. It is also very high in fat, so you should give it sparingly, like nuts. But it isn't "bad" for them to eat. It's just not the best food. It should be fine in moderation.

Oh hey, I have a question, actually. Does anyone know/have an opinion on frozen veggies/fruits versus fresh veggies/fruits? It just seems like frozen one would keep for SO much longer. And every week I lament about food that gets thrown away, because Luna is tiny and doesn't eat much.
