Scent Glands Removed?

I was browsing PetFinder and looking at all of the cutie patooties at LGRS and came across a listing for a glider in Baton Rouge that has had it's scent glands removed. Is that even possible? And with them being so scent oriented could this kid ever be accepted by other gliders?

Thanks. I don't have the correct answer, but my first guess would be that it's not a good idea to remove the scent glands. I see there is an adoption pending...I hope he gets a good home with a knowledgeable suggie slave.

He is listed as neutered and i know that keeps them from scent marking ... maybe that's what they mean? I mean how else could you do that....?

piratektty that is exactly what I was wondering! How on earth? I know neutering lessens the scent marking but there will always be some sort of scenting, from what I understand. Total noob so I could be wrong, but that's why I am asking here! One of the experienced folks will be able to sort this thing out!

I think it's safe to say that the person that placed the ad knows little to nothing about gliders, and that the glider was only neutered. They probably were either confused about the bald spot disappearing, or just assumed it was removed. I think if it had really happened you would see obvious signs of mutilation in the pictures.

Since they were at a rabbit rescue they probably are only knowledgeable about rabbits. I hope the person adopting him is knowledgeable and will trash the heat rock, and will tell the rescue not to give them out with any future rescues.

My thought as well. Maybe because they smell less, they assumed scent glands were removed.
