About eight years ago, I ended up with a young glider (Norman) when a friend of a friend had decided he didn't want it anymore and was going to "set it free" in a field. It was clear shortly after that (and a crash course in their care) that it was obvious he was desperately lonely for a friend (the night barking) and I found another male (not as young) that needed a home as well (Rocky from North Carolina). Norman and Rocky were inseparable for almost eight years. About a month ago, Rocky died. He had been diagnosed with cancerous (and inoperable) cysts about a year ago, but he had been doing fairly well until just a few hours before he died. I am terribly sad--and Norman is once again after all these years barking again. It is heartbreaking. Now what? He obviously needs a companion, but I am struggling to find another non-aggressive older male anywhere. (Norman and Rocky were both very friendly both to humans and each other.) I've read stories about the difficulty in introducing a new companion to an older glider, but he is so lonely (even with my attention) that I feel it is the right thing to do. These are the only gliders I have ever had. They are in a very large cage, toys, ladders, rope, etc. Fed both a high quality glider food AND a wide variety other things for a naturally balanced diet. Any suggestions? I live in the Washington, DC, area and have checked and psoted everywhere I can possibly think of. Thanks for any help..

Hi Karen,

I'm going to send you a private message in a bit with contact info for a few rescuers in the area that might have or know of a match for him.

Hope it helps you find a buddy for Norman :)

You can also check The Sugar Glider Exchange. There are a few gliders available in NY and NJ.
