I had two sugar gliders, but one passed away. So, I decided to get the other one some friends. Well, I found a great deal for two un-neutered sugar gliders (both males) and I was wondering if during the introduction process will they gang up on him? Mine is neutered and two years old. The new ones I might get are two and three and not neutered. Also the one i have now was in the cage with the one that passes away of sickness, will he get it too? Should I take all 3 to the vet before I put them together or just one?
Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts the one i have now isn't sick at all. How much about would all that vet stuff be for each one? Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts the 2 intact males have been together for 2 year and have been fine though.. petluv15 Fuzzy Wuzzy 1500 Posts
quote:
the one i have now isn't sick at all.

You don't know if he is sick or not - you didn't know your current glider had a problem until you found him dying at the bottom of the cage and he passed away hours later. You need to know the cause. You also don't know if the new gliders(or your current one) are harboring parasites - they often bloom during stress(loss of a cage mate, moving to a new home, etc.), which is why quarantine MUST be done.
quote:
How much about would all that vet stuff be for each one?

It depends... I could tell you this if you would be willing to let me know where you are - I have called over 30 vets in the state of VA and some in MD and WV and have all that info in a spreadsheet. Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts the one who passed away we burried. he passes away 2 days ago, and got sick 3 days ago..... :( Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts ok. so the two intact ones might fight? they never have before. for 2 years
Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts ok, I had 2 gliders.. one passed away of unknown causes and i had one more that was now lonley. I told my friends and family and one of my friends have 2 intact males that she would give me them and cage and everything for free. Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts I do have the money for a vet. He was already to sick. Lauryn259 Joey 44 Posts Im not sure why you keep saying I could not afford a vet. It was my parents choice they had a friend whom has several gliders and they have had the same syptoms which mine was having. They listen to what he said to do to nurse the gliders back to good health. But with mine it was to late. I am a new glider owner and take good care of my my gliders other animals also. I have never had a issue such as this but now will know next time, I do not need to hear how I neglected my glider the loss of a pet is hard enough! KritterCare Face Hugger USA 633 Posts Ok, usually I do my best to stay out of the drama posts, but I'm going to have to agree with everyone on this one. Granted, I was not there in chat the night this happened, but from what everyone has said, they did try to help you and you refused to help your glider. Taking him to the vet, even if it was just for some fluids, could have pulled him through the night until a knowledgable vet was found and contacted. Even if you thought that your glider had the same thing that your friends gliders pulled though, the job of a pet owner is to do anything and everything to help their pet when they are in need. Refusing to do so is, for lack of better termonology, is sheer neglect. You are also still refusing to take your current glider to the vet, even though he could very well be in the beginning stages of what killed your previous glider. If you are claiming that you cannot take them due to financial issues, then I stongly suggest not bringing more gliders into your home and perhaps consider rehoming your current glider to someone who has the ability to care for him properly. However, people are going to do what they want to do, regardless of what others say. So to answer your question... Two unneutered males will most likely gang up on, attack, and possibly kill your current glider if you do not neuter the two new males prior to introductions. You would also need to take all of them to the vet first to make sure that they aren't harboring any parasites/diseases that could be passed to the others. It was also pointed out on your other thread that the cage you have looks to be a PP cage, which the old ones have proven to be toxic, which very well might be the cause of your gliders death. I suggest you look into getting a new cage if you plan to continue glider ownership. Good luck to your glider, and that is all I have to say on this. lancegtx Glider 194 Posts Wow such drama!.. lol Seriously tho OP I would really doubt the two un-altered males would ever take him in unless they were both neutered, and then at that point your still rolling the dice (and spending more than you would on a lone female.) I would leave those two alone as long as they are healthy and happy. You should look for a lone female or a neutered male to try to pair your little guy with. But thats ONLY if you are willing to make a few vet visits to get them both checked out! Now with all that being said, if you cannot provide a proper cage mate and proper vetrinary care for them your should seriously think about re-homing your little guy to someone who can properly care for him. Best wishes go out to you though, good luck! I think you should rehome you'r glider to somebody that CAN care for him properal, and give him vet care when he needs it. If you can't afored the the vet care for the 2 you already had, how on earth are you going to affored 3 vet bills? An that statement "He was already too sick" really makes me mad. Even if he was already to sick, you could've at least took him to the vet to TRY and save him, even if he did'nt make it, he would have passed knowing you tried and loved him. Im pretty sure you would not make a statement "he was already too sick" if that was one of your HUMAN family members, would you? I belive NOT. ~Erica~ sugie bandit Super Glider 252 Posts sierranevadaK Face Hugger USA 804 Posts
quote:
tsk tsk...what a mess.

Yes, quite a mess.
