Ok, so I was in a discussion with a friend, and he insisted that sugar gliders need hard food occassionaly (like pellet/biscuits) to keep their teeth wore down like rabbits and rodents. I had said that I have never heard this, and that they were not rodents. But we sort of bickered back and for with him insisting that if that if they did not have hard food to keep their teeth ground down that they would over grow like some squirrels and actually have to be trimmed. We ended the discussion because I had no way to prove other wise so here I am asking, because if he is right I will bite the bullet, but if he is wrong I want to make sure he knows this because all of the stuff I have read, I have NEVER heard this.

Gliders teeth are not like a rodents they are marsupials, they DO NOT need trimming or need to be given hard food to wear them down. Like Stella said the teeth will NEVER grow back and will cause a lot of pain and problems in the glider if they get trimmed by a vet.

Your friend is WRONG! Gliders teeth do not grow continuously like a rodents do. He may be mixing his info. up with those of us that give something hard for them to chew on for dental health...ie; cleaning, giving them something solid to maintain healthy gums.... but NOT to keep them worn down.

If you want to get a kibble locally, get a small bag of high quality, grain-free cat food. Or you can order Pet Pro Happy Glider, or Suncoast Wholesome Balance to give on occasion. I would personally order the made-for-gliders kibble, rather than feed the cat food.. but a good cat food would work in a pinch.

Thank you TheHomermomma!! I'm so printing this out and taking them to him. I knew I was right lol. I told him I had read over this and GC over and over and NEVER seen anything about needing to trim teeth on gliders. *sigh* men (no offence lol this one is stubborn)

I would make certain he knows in case he ever gets a glider. Wow I'm so glad you questioned him! Hard foods can actually cause abrasions in their mouths that lead to infection.
