I recently read a thread about gliders in terrible condition being sold on craigslist and it now has me worried sick about:

1) If mine are in a terrible condition, I need to know what I need to change because I couldn't stand knowing they aren't happy. (I don't think they are bad off, I just worry worse than a mother.)

And if this is a bad idea:

2) I found this on craigslist: louisville.craigslist.org/grd/2962097634.html

What has me worried is they have all of them listed for $150, so I figure they don't know much about them if they are so cheap. They also mention a "small cage". I'm going to contact them and ask for photos if possible to see what's going on.

I have two gliders that I recently got back in February, who were treated pretty badly by their previous owners. They have still not warmed up to me (sadly D:), but would it be a bad idea to pick up 3 more? I would appreciate feedback and any hints or tips if possible.

I highly doubt yours are in terrible condition - you have the sense to come on and ask about them and care for them. If you'd like to ask about diet, their cage, toy options, etc., feel free to post about what you are doing or any questions you have.

The ad you found does mention a small cage and coming with food. Chances are you would need to upgrade their cage and choose a better diet for them. Whenever you bring in new gliders from unknown backgrounds, you should quarantine hem away from your current gliders for at least 30 days. This is time for you to bond with them and also to check for parasites and get them vet checked.

Joey raising isn't always fun and games - so be prepared with a rejection kit if you do decide to take them. Sometimes joeys are rejected or cannabalized - you have to hope for the best, but be ready for the worst to happen. make sure you also have the finances to neuter the males as well.

Also, quarantine is a very good time to neuter him. And welcome! Could you post pictures of your suggies and their diet? Looks like the cage is awesome. Oh yeas, I don't see a wheel in your cage. You do need one of those.

Welcome! What a great cage, you could hang some fleece vines, extra pouches, a fleece bridge and put in a wheel or two (Raptor, Stealth) hang a little buckets with fleece where you could put plastic balls and hide food in them. There is so much you could do with so much room. Lucky gliders.

As for the new ones be prepared for a long process, once quarentine is over introducing them to your current gliders may not be as simple.

In total agreement with all the feedback you've received already, no need to repeat, lol.

But I will say:
AWESOME cage you have! Looks to me like room for more gliders, just follow advise given concerning doing that. A little added furnishings to create safe & fun habitat is all you need, looks like you have the bones down good though, I can't tell if that's a wheel on the floor, kind of looks like it, and I see you have some options for play & sleep already, very good start with the basics!!!

Enhancements can be fun & rewarding to both you and your gliders, the link for DIY is great, and there are many other posts with ideas both bought and homemade (some with tutorials). I recommend doing a few "cage photos" searches here (I did a lot of that and found it helpful), and other forums possibly, and see all the different many creative ways glider habitats can be embellished safely. Then apply your own creative design to your glider's habitat.

Please keep in mind.... the trauma of going to a new home and all that that entails can cause stress on an expectant glider which could cause her to cannabalize her joey(ies). Just something to keep in mind if you consider getting these new gliders.

As far as cage toy ideas....invest in some fleece...you can make all kinds of braided ropes zig-zagging across the cage for them to climb on.

A ball pit can be made fairly easily...a plastic bowl of some kind and them fill it with fun stuff. Plastic "golf" balls from WalMart or the Dollar Store. Army Men, Plastic Insects ect...again from the Dollar Store.
You can even fill it with scrap strips of fleece. I have both...one filled with plastic stuff...(even milk lids, water bottle lids, milk rings...snipped so they don't get caught in them) and one filled with fleece scraps.

Large Legos are a hit... natural branches....PetSmart has an array of climbing logs and ceramic "caves" for lizards that work quite nicely for gliders.

In the last pic...I got these yellow/green balls in the seasonal section of WalMart. They work great for hiding treats in for foraging. The treat stays in and the holes are big enough for little arms to fit in, or if your glider gets smart they learn to tip the ball upside down and dump the treats out. I got plastic chain from Lowes and it's attached from the top of the cage with a C link...then the ball is attached to the chain with a baby link which you can find in the baby section of WalMart.

Please be careful with the Wodent Wheel.... a few weeks ago someones' glider ripped it's entire tail off while running on one....and yes, it had the white safety guard. I've been looking for the thread to attach it here but can't find it...if anyone can locate it and attach it, it would appreciate.

Welcome to glider gossip. Please keep in mind if you adopt the craigslist gliders do not put them in the cage with your other gliders. Along with quaranteens a pregnant mother would most likely be stressed out enough to pull her joeys if placed with 3 strangers. Please order all the stuff you will need right away for a joey rejection kit asnd read all you can on suz's web site for joey rejection before you need it. I would immediately get the mom on a good quality diet and add extra protein in her diet for the joey.
