Can anyone enlighten me to the types of gliders there are?

Mala & Ariana are sisters from seperate births. I've never seen their parents but know they were purchased at a fair, so of course no lineage or impeccible genes. As they have gotten older, I have noticed that they have different facial features than Jasper, Zoey or Kodah does.

It's hard to capture on film but I tried...those of you with a keen eye can probably see what I'm talking about, but either way, in person it's very noticeable.

Looking straight at their little faces, they appear to be more rounded...the whole head appears more circular...nose seems shorter...eyes appear to be a little more "buggy." I don't think they are but the shortness of the face makes it appear so. Of course a picture can't capture it but I took some side shots of Ariana & Mala...then one of Jasper (he depicts Zoe & Kod as well).

I just think Ari & Mala are a slightly different breed...maybe instead of coming from Indonesia they came from Australia or vice-versa. Not sure but I'm really curious.

Looking at the pics... You will notice Mala & Aris' eyes are closer to their noses...Jaspers "appears" to be but if you look at his eyeliner, it appears he has more of it than the girls do which makes the distance from eye to nose appear similar...but if you just look at his eye, then his nose...you can see a longer distance....

Oh wow, yes, I see the same characteristics in my gliders. Remi and Tinker have a profile much like Mala and Ari while Taz looks more like Jasper...well actually even a little more "possum" like than Jasper lol.

There are many many different breeds of glider. Squirrel gliders, mahogany gliders, feather-tail gliders, etc.

However, the ones we have in the US are almost without exception (the only exceptions I'm aware of are 2 squirrel gliders) sugar gliders. They look different, yes. They have different traits and slight differences, just as you look different from you uncle or your neighbor. However, they aren't different breeds or types. There are different colors - but the pictures you have posted are all Standard Gray sugar gliders. Whether they have rounder faces or longer faces, they are still the same species, breed and type.

Wow Jazz that is a very noticeable difference. They look like they got mixed in with a persian with the smushed face...lol.
I have 3 leus that have very different looks to them as well. They have more rounded ears and a bit shorter face like your guys and very very think necks...it looks like someone took their head and just smashed it into their body so they have almost no neck :) They are all much much bigger than all my other gliders too. Baily is just plain fat but frosty and Snowball just have a different build.

Exactly...that's why I'm wondering if we have slightly different species of gliders. For example...I have a rat terrior. She is a cookie cutter of every other rat terrior I've ever seen. I also have a Jack Russell Terrior, and while he looks like some...he isn't a cookie cutter because JRT have so many different looks...short haired, long haired, short legged, long legged...ect.

So I was wondering how gliders fall. One type but different looks? Or subtley different breeds in which there is a slightly different look?

It really doesn't matter....I love them all, I'm just really curious.

Rue also has a little round head and tiny nose. I didn't see it until I got the new girl and noticed her long, skinny, fox-like face.

There are probably many genetic characteristics that we have not yet identified as such in gliders, just as there are in all species.

Small differences such as shape of the face do not make them different species.

In humans there are variations of eye and hair color, finger lengths that have different patterns such as the index finger being longer than the ring finger or vice versa, second toes longer than the big toe, attached vs detached ear lobes and the ability to roll one's tongue are just a few differences that can be inherited - but they do not make different species of humans.

I know what you mean - I have 5 gliders and 1 of them looks totally different and is MUCH larger. He has a huge head and it's shaped differently, and the eyes are different to. I like my little fat head guy though - he's my favorite when it comes to looks.
