So I know with some other animals like cats, dogs, horses etc... If the mom can't or won't nurse the baby for some reason (or some times just because there are two nursing mamas) the other female that is around will also nurse the baby or take over nursing the baby. I was wondering (especially since they are colony animals) if Sugar Gliders will nurse another mother's young or if it's just up to the mama????

Well I know for a fact that they do.. I have two females and a male... my bells has twin 7 day oop joeys.. my other female altho she hasn't had joeys in over a year.. does try to nurse them and bella doesn't seem to mind. She also cleans and watches them while mom and dad are out of the pouch :)

I have a trio and with the last set of twins I saw the other female nursing them sometimes. If trio's work then I think it's quite common. But sometimes it'll be the opposite and the other female may try to kill the joeys.

I had noticed them all three taking turns watching the joey (who still needs a name lol) but i didn't know if Annabella would nurse the joey since it's Sarahbella's joey. Thanks for the help with this. I was asking for one just to educate myself further and for two to know if I'm taking mom out with the joey when I put them in the pouch or if I'm taking the other female, I just don't want mom to get upset. Neither of them mind me taking the joey away from them to play with him though Part of it too was that was the only way I was telling them apart, I have no clue how to tell my two girls apart other thank knowing that Sarahbella is the one who has the joey
