I am the third owner of this 2year old glider and I've had him for about a month,I don't think he ever bonded with anyone and I don't think he was on a proper diet,so I have him on the leadbeaters(bml)diet and I give him ground turkey or gerber chicken with some calcium supplement and always different vegeis and fruits,I think he was a litlle constipated,so I started giving him some gerber prune/apple,I think its helping, finally he is starting to come out and walk on me! Any pointers?and what about monkey biscuts?are they any good?

First, thanks for taking on the little guy!

If you are feeding BML, you should not be giving extra calcium supplements. You can give him a little bit of the chicken/turkey as a treat, but its not needed as part of the diet and will throw off its balance.

Also, BML has specific fruit/veggie lists - veggies should be mixed veggies of corn, green beans, carrots, and peas. Veggies should include melons, berries, apples, etc.

I would try sticking to the original diet plan to see if that resolves the constipation and if it does not, get him to the vet to be checked out for medical causes.

Are you planning on getting him a friend soon?

ok,thanks!
I just sprinkle some of the calcium supplement on the fruits,I was afraid he would not get enough protein if i just fed him the bml diet, but i will try to follow it better, also as a nurse i know corn has no nutritional value to us,so i figured i would not chance it with him. I would like to get him a friend, but i would like to bond with him some more, also i would have to get a girl,so then i will have to get him neutered to,right?

Corn actually has a decent amount of protein in it, the way BML is balanced, it's designed to work well as one of the veggies included with that diet. If you follow the recipe and feeding instructions exactly, he will be getting plenty of protein, but you can still give him little bits of turkey or whatever for treats. Definately skip the extra calcium supplementing though, that's a quick way to overdose him.
