I posted a while back - if your glider is sick, and you don't take it to the vet FOR ANY REASON - don't expect sympathy from me! YOU let your glider die. That is the fact. I don't really care how old you are. If you are old enough to be posting on the internet, and owning a pet, you are old enough to know what the consequences of your choices are. YOUR choices. And the glider suffered. Shame on you, you 13 year old twit. Dichroic Joey 39 Posts Wow. Such a shame. A child is allowed to care for these animals and this is what happens. Fantastic case here for why children shouldn't be given sugar gliders. Its people like her that make me sick! If you were a teen mom and something happened to your child would you sit home and watch it suffer? I sure as hell wouldn't, and my gliders are my children (on top of my actual 3 skin kids)....you have no respect for this poor baby that died. You sit here on the internet typing this sob story and expect us to feel bad for you......NO i do not feel bad for YOU, i feel bad for button's and your other gliders for having owners that do not care about there health and well being! If your parents bought you these gliders and put all the responsibility on you, then SHAME ON THEM too. That the short way of putting it a twit! I think the name calling is more than a little uncalled for. No one said you have to dole out sympathy and you are entitled to your opinion on the issue (regarding if she made any effort to help Button) but nothing gives you the right to start insulting people or calling names. valkyriemome Goofy Gorillatoes USA 3479 Posts Yes, actually - I do have that right! 1) This is the internet. 2) This is America. I can insult people, or call names all I want! Sorry you don't like it! I choose not to most of the time, however, someone WATCHING their pet die while doing nothing gets me pretty angry! So - she's a twit! Of course, this being America, she had every right to watch her pet die! Everyone knows that all animals are disposable in America! And I still say she got a bargain!
Rukiya Glider USA 121 Posts My mom would tell me to not be a twit often in my teenage years.....ahhhhh memory lane. I totally agree with the switch to an adult only site. I am also all for the idea of talking to this child's parental units instead of her. She stated that "a family member" woke her up and said "I think YOU'RE glider is dead" so I am under the impression that these are not family pets. Maybe it would be a welcome suggestion to the parents that they rehome these gliders. She may not want to but being a child I would think that the final decision would be the parents to make. ok fine....call names all you want, you are entitled to act the crone if you choose I guess. She actually didn't come her after her baby died. She came here to post that she was watching her baby die. Do you know how hard it is for many members here to hear that someone, no matter WHAT age, is sitting there doing nothing waiting for their glider to die?? I personally was nearly physically ill. In a way it doesn't even matter how old she is, although like I said this is a great example of why kids shouldn't have gliders (especially) without full parental support and commitment to take responsibility for the costs of care and vetting. If she is over 18, she is even more of a twit because she's an adult that should know better, and she made a conscious decision to sit and watch her glider die rather than care for her the way the LAW says an animal must be cared for. This is abuse, plain and simple. Even if it is her fault, attacking her won't bring the glider back. Yes, her actions were irresponsible. People have said time and time again that gliders hide illness until the last possible second. She had an hour. That's all. How many people have lost gliders because they didn't get to the vet in time? Were those people negligent or abusive? She tried to comfort the animal and put it back with its family where it was loved. Animal abuse, in my opinion, is intentially harming the animal. She was trying to care for Button as best she knew how. I'm just saying be gentle. Children and teens are very sensitive to adult opinion even if they don't really know the adult all that well. She came here. That's a start if nothing else. Tearing her down won't help her. As for whether or not she is a 13, does it matter? Kindness, understanding and problem solving in hard situations, owner caused or not, should be the standard, not harsh name calling. Calling people names and saying they have no right to own gliders or pets, for that matter, are not constructive. People, especially children, learn from making mistakes. Allow her this mistake so she can grow from it. Skyfire Face Hugger AZ, USA 456 Posts Thats what I have been trying to say! Believe you me, I wanted to take Ashes to have her euthanized but she started acting a little better. I remember now my vet told me last year before I put my dog down that often many times animals will act like they are getting a 'second wind' before it is the end. Yes, ladies, you were kind. I think sometimes with us all being so passionate about gliders, we don't realize the world does not actually revolve around them. It should but it doesn't.
quote:
[quote]Originally posted by Omis n Kais g-ma
Sometimes there is just nothing you can do though. I wouldn't assume anything at this point. My daughter had a hamster die last week. She was really sick and I wanted to take her to the vet but she was 2 1/2 years old and that's the life expectancy for them. I could have taken her but for what? For them to tell me she was dying of old age? I'm sorry Kim, I tend to lean towards soothing a broken heart. Unless she comes right out and says she didn't take her because she didn't have money. And for the OP, please apply for the Care Credit now. You want it before you 'need' it. [quote] There is a difference between a 2 1/2 year old hamster and a 4 year old glider - a 4 year old glider is not in any way considered a senior. And the OP did say she didn't take her in due to money. There are options - care credit, rescues, posting here at the first sign(as we have seen before, sometimes the community steps up and is able to help), etc. At the very least, you can take the animal in to be euthanized rather than "just let it die"...I'm not saying you have to pay for cancer treatment or surgery, but the animal deserves a painless, humane death rather than a drawn out suffering.
