Ok so I have two adult male gliders living together nicely in a cage. One is intact and the other neutered. They were both rescues. I got a new neutered male a while ago and am having trouble with the intro. My intact boy loves the new guy. They get along great when they are together. My older neutered male and the new guy...... Not so much. As soon as he sees the new guy he chases him down and they ball up. I have to physically separate them when they do this. I've done the pouch and cage swapping, their cages are next to eachother, done tub time etc. I figured it would be the other way around with my intact male being the bully but nope. I've read about the scent masking thing but don't really have a full grasp on it. Do any of y'all have suggestions for me?

If the new boy and the unneutered boy get along, leave them together in a clean/neutral cage for a few nights without the older neutered boy. Eventually the neutered boy will just miss his buddy and be more willing to accept the new boy. Scent masking is typically only used for gliders that are depressed and need a cage mate but will not accept one, and typically isn't used as an everyday introduction method. Agree,.... My Kodah did that and I put him by himself. He was still in the same room next to the others but out of grabbing range. I still did pouch swapping. Every morning I would take the gangs pouch out and put it in Kodahs cage and that's what he had to sleep in.

On the 5th day as I was messing in the gangs cage, Kodah hung on the side of his on high alert! He was watching every single move I made. As I was approaching his cage door with pouch in hand he jumped to the front of his cage still all alert.... I moved the pouch within his reach,...he grabbed it from between the bars and started sniffing for all he was worth. I got it away from him and opened his door,... before I could even get the pouch hung he had jumped into it. He stayed there the entire day.

I took that as a great sign and I did intros the next morning..... they have all been together since.


He just needed a time out and to remember what it was like to be alone, and he decided he didn't like it much.

I absolutely agree with both Kritter and Jazz! I JUST went thru the same thing. All my gliders except Kodi accepted Shyler so I kept Kodi apart from them for three days and attempted a bathtub intro which went well for a half hour...then Kodi went into attack mode so he was kept alone for 5 additional days. I did bathtub intros with just Kodi and Shyler and it went very well. Those two are now on their second day of being caged together and sharing he same food plate Putting them with the rest of the colony begins this evening.

Ladyjag, I suggest keeping Remi separated for at least 5-7 days while pouch and toy swapping. My whole group is now integrated together and I haven't had any problems yet. 5 of them piled onto each other like playful kittens while Kodi watched and tried to avoid being trampled lol. I think he hung out by me b/c he thought I would give him some mealies lol.
