You can’t train a sugar glider, but maybe you can?…to a point. You can never train a glider to do their business in a litter box, or sit, stay or heal. You can’t teach them to not spit their food or to not throw their poop. But you can teach them sound commands.

My gliders are on one of the BEST diet’s ever, a protein, fruit and veggie every night. However they get a ton of treat’s, usually the size of a grape seed to the size of a pinenut. They have their own room and a ton of foraging cups and obstacles. But I have a ton of tiny treats in my pocket. If they don’t eat all the food, the treats are cut down, so on and so forth.

All my gliders are trained on sound. Every time they get a treat from me I make a clicking sound as I’m giving them the treat. If they are doing their own thing and I click they turn my way.

Tonight Olivia was under her cage; I had no idea where she was. So I started clicking! She ran from under her cage, ran up her cage, ran through the vines I have on the wall, ran through the bamboo wall I have, climbed down a lamp, jumped on my shoulder to get her treat, I was on the other side of the room!!!

Out of the four, I have three of them react this way. I have heard so, so, so many stories of gliders going missing. Its not a hundred percent guaranteed, but hey it cant hurt. Anytime you give your glider something positive (food, treats, snuggles) make a noise, the same noise, with a treate, They will associate with that.

Good advice! This definitely works, names are fun for us humans but forgettable for the gliders but not treat noise oh no!

Yup - I make the same mouth sound each night when I'm handing out treats. It definitely gets the residual sleepy heads out of bed!

All good to know, I'll try to remember to make a repetitive sound when giving treats.

mine are trained with ttttsssssttt sound when they are mouthing too hard or doing something to me I don't like and they stop right away.

My high pitched talking saying "GOOD MORNING" they are on the front of the cage waiting to come out to play...they know when they hear that it is playtime.
