I have a two year old male named Dexter, and a baby girl named Pearl. Pearl and Dex have been getting along great, but all the sudden one night he just never came back to his cage! I generally give them free roam of my bedroom, and there's no way he could have gotten out or into the bathroom. It's been two days and i'm starting to get very very worried. I've completely cleared out my room looking for him. I've put food out near his cage, but it hasn't been touched at all. If anyone has any advice, please help me out!

Have you tried enticing him with treats? You could try putting a sleeping pouch within easy access(a treat or two inside), maybe he will crawl in to sleep in something familiar. If you are absolutely sure he could not get out of your room then look in dark spaces. Chances are he got distracted while exploring and crawled into a small dark space to sleep. Good luck and keep us posted.

Same, I wish I could help. The only thing I can think is to put out pouches and blankets, hopefully he will want a cuddly place to sleep. And treats and food to get his attention...maybe eggs or something that makes a lot of smell!

Good Luck!

Does Pearl bark for him? If so, listen to see if he barks back. That what I did when Sheldon escaped. Penny barked and he responded from an entirely different room. Good luck!!!

Pearl hasn't barked for him at all! This may sound stupid, but I've even tried making her do a search dog thing :P I try to get her to sniff stuff and go play, but she hasn't come up with anything either.

I put yoggies and cantaloupe out on a plate, but he hasn't touched it :( His pouch is hanging on him and Pearl's cage. I'm just hoping I find him soon. He means the world to me.
Thank you guys for all the support.

Heres a linkhttp://kryskritters.com/ you can open and give it a few seconds to start. I've heard if you play it, many a gliders will answer it. Did you throw your trash out? Take clothes to the laundry room? Any holes anywhere? Under sink counter? I really wish I could help you. If you have a hard floor, maybe sprinkle a small amount of flour and see if you see footprints in it.

Thank you so much! I hope that works.
I haven't taken any trash out or done any laundry. I don't think there are any holes, and my sink is open underneath, so I'd be able to see him.
I really appreciate the help.
I'm just very worried that he's stuck or hurt somewhere and I just can't hear him. Is it possible for them to hibernate?

You said he went missing in your bedroom, maybe you checked already BUT what about up under the boxspring that your mattress lays on? not sure what kind of bed you have or anything but if the bottom of your boxspring has even the smallest hole or area not covered they can get up in it. have you turned over your night table and dresser? a lot of them have a small couple inch area under them between the bottom drawer or panel to the floor that cant be seen from the front. what about your closet? check every pocket in shirts and pants. believe it or not they can find a way to climb some walls/the corner moldings, my Willow does it in our bathroom, maybe he got somewhere you may think he couldn't have. could he possibly have gotten under the door to get out of the room? they only need barely over 1/2 inch of space to squeeze out of.

I hope you find him soon and please keep us updated

Is there a chance that your box spring has a hole in it and he crawled in it? My cats found two holes in mine (where the fabric across the bottom is separating from the frame and they sleep in it all the time. Good luck!

I actually am in a dorm room, so if he got out of the room, that would be devastating. I checked the mattress today, but I think I'm going to check it again. I think I'll be checking everything again. I've taken everything out of my closet and looked around, and then completely closed it off.

My ferrets used to get up in the box spring and chewed holes in the fabric covering the bottom of our chairs. When I found Sheldon he was climbing up a pair of jeans in the bedroom. I don't know how long it would have taken to find him had he made a home in a pocket of something I never wear! I hope you are putting water out for him too. Also, are there any a/c or hearing vents he could have gotten into? I've heard stories of gliders getting up in ceilings through air vents.

Yes! I've been putting food and water out both nights, but I haven't heard anything. He usually wakes up around 10 P.M., and i've been staying up until 2 A.M. hoping I'll hear something!
I'll definitely be checking the mattress again. Thanks!

Hey Lisa, what is it that should show up to play? The link just takes me to the home page and there are a ton of links on there. Is it an audio file of a barking glider?

I know you probably know but I had a thought.. they can jump UP, they dont just glide across and/or down... and i guess you dont have a roommate in ur dorm room or im sure you would have said you have searched their stuff as well. its crazy the small tiny places they will force themselves into, i think they only take up a 2 inch diameter area when curled to sleep for a full grown suggie.. my heart is breaking just trying to figure out other places for you to look

I don't have a roommate, thankfully!
I'm in a wheelchair and got Dex as an emotional service animal. He was the best decision I ever made, but unfortunately I did it at one of those places in the mall. I didn't know any better at the time, but I really made an effort to research about him and changed his diet and got him a vet immediately. I just got Pearl to help with the loneliness.
I just am so worried - he's been there so much for me, I just hope I can do the same.

try all your drawers, my Butters liked to sleep in the back of my underwear drawer, he got in it by crawling up into the back of the dresser. He also liked to hide in boxes and in purses, clothes hanging on the back of the door. If Dex is a crabber, try making noises all over the room to see if he will crab at them.

If he hasn't come back I am thinking he either got out of your room (praying that ISN'T the case), or got himself stuck somewhere that he can't get out. Have you enlisted help in looking for him? I don't know how mobile you are since you said you are in a wheelchair but it may help to have someone else looking through everything with you. Is he a chewer? Could he have gotten in a pocket and chewed a hole in the lining of a jacket? I lost some keys like that once, they ended up being in the hem in the very back of the jacket - well the keys didn't chew of course, they just worked their way through a hole in the lining... Have you mentioned him to anyone else on your floor of the dorm? Either way, if he isn't getting food and water you need to find him fast! I will be sending you all kinds of good vibes for finding him!!

If there is more than 1/2 inch space under the door to your room or to the bathroom - he could have slipped under.

Have you alerted the other folks on your hall in the dorm to be on the look out for him?

I had a glider go UNDER a pocket door and into the wall through a space just barely 3/4 inch high. Another time she shimmied under the hall door and headed to my son's room.

I hope he comes out safely tonight.

I "lost" my little girl Bijou when we were having bathroom time...I thought I had a small bathroom but when one gets lost its amazing how big it really is. She had crawled under my closet door and went and took a nap behind the toilet paper rolls in the back of the closet on the floor...I was ready to tear the whole bathroom apart. She was missing for 20 minutes and that seemed like hours.

Her twin brother is "Dexter" too.

I hope your Dexter is on his way home to his pouch

I actually just alerted my Community Advisor of my floor and she said she hadn't heard anything about a 'mouse' or anything like that, cause obviously people would report something like that. She also helped me measure my door and it's less than half an inch to the floor, so I think he must be in my room!
I really hope he's not stuck somewhere. D:

Thanks to everyone who's commented. I have been looking really hard, but I'll check places like dressers and the mattress again. I'm playing the soundtrack from that website with the sugar glider barking, so hopefully that brings him out!

I hope he finds his way back! Did you try the flour around the food trick? Sometimes food looks untouched when it isn't. I'm praying for him and you!

Edit: I had ferrets escape on several occasions and they always returned eventually. One was gone for a week, outside. She got out through a kitty door someone forgot to close. A week later, after I had given up hope, she came scurrying in across the floor! You could have knocked me over with a feather! So, keep the faith!

I have carpets but a little bit by my door is hard floor. I'm just afraid with my wheels that I'll track a lot.
A little piece of broccoli was left in the big cage, and I've had Pearl in the travel one for a little bit so he feels like he can get home. I'm not sure if he's moved some food from the plate, but the broccoli on the plate doesn't look touched at all.

Keep pouches hanging out so he can easily find one. If you have carpets the flour trick won't work too well . Fingers crossed!!!
