They move pretty slow when they first wake up - could that be it?

That's not enough description. If you give him mealworm or other treat and he's not accepting it and is not moving away, he's probably dying. Sugar gliders dont really sit still in normal course of things. If he is dying, there will be very little a vet will be able to do.

If he is sitting still only occasionally and he moves normally now or later then he is probably just fine.

Take him to the vet asap, gliders are very good at hiding illnesses. It may not look like much now, but you always want to be sure.

the wet urine behind his tail sounds like a big concern too. gliders don't like being wet and don't normally go to the bathroom on themselves

All of mine, when they first get up, seem to be in a bit of a stupor and will sometimes just sit and stare into space. But once they fully wake up they are all over the place and going crazy on their wheels.

If he is just sitting there peeing on himself you better get him to a vet quick, that doesn't seem right to me.

Agreed, especially when you turn the light on or open a blind/curtain to let light in.

I just had this same problem and was going to come on here and ask but I decided to give him a bit and he was taking mealies just not very fast. He didn't have the wetness like you're describing though. It panicked me. Thought he was dying. Turns out he was just taking a bit to wake up. He's now crazy and running on his wheel like normal :)

Sometimes you need to take them to the vet ASAP, and sometimes you need to just give it time and see what happened. It's a had decision for parents. But I believe I made the correct one and by his spunky Ed's now I believe I did :)

If I take mine out and there are enough lights on, or it's daylight, my gliders will tend to just sit there until they decide where they want to go. When my girls were babies, I once looked at them and left the room. I came back an hour later and they hadn't moved at all. Mine just don't like to move in the light. Usually when I turn the lights off, they start moving all over the place. That's just how my gliders are (even my new male acts the same way). So your glider might be the same, but I would still definitely take him to the vet, especially with a wet bum.
