Hello, I've been lurking around glider gossip for awhile now and reading about sugar gliders. I'm about to make the leap into getting my first suggie.
The current owner says the sugar glider comes with a "bag of sugar glider mix" which sounds like a pellet food. She's a year and a half old.
I'm looking at several different diets but they all require ingredients that must be bought online and I'm looking for something to hold me over from the time I get the glider (tomorrow?) to the time I can have ingredients shipped. I was reading about HPW & how suggie soup is a modified version of that: I read that the eggs in hpw was partially replaced by the dehydrated pupae: would it be okay to temporarily serve suggie soup without the dehydrated pupae & with three eggs instead of 1?
Any other ideas for good sugar glider diets that can be made up of locally available products (for only 1 or 2 weeks until I ship out ingredients for an alternative diet) so that I don't have to feed the pellets.

Thank you!

You could use BML - you get the calcium at a pet store and the rest at the grocery store:)

Suggie Soup is a totally different feeding plan from the HPW diets - you cannot mix and match the ingredients. Suggie soup requires a protein source to be fed in addition to the fruits and vegetables. HPW is fed with fruits and vegetables only.

If you have chosen the diet you wish to use and have ordered the ingredients, you can feed plain boiled chicken or cooked eggs along with a wide variety fo fruits and vegetables until the necessary ingredients arrive to prepare the diet you plant to stick with.

I order Wombaroo High Protein Supplement from the Pampered Glider to make my GliderKids Staple and usually have it arrive within just a few days.

Thank you! The BML diet looks like a great option
I can't wait to get the glider, hopefully living on pellets for a year hasn't done too much damage!

I know you don't really want to order online. But I reccomed HPW Complete. All you have to do is add water. Then of course you have your fruits and veggies. Here's the link to CritterLove's (Peggy) website to order it. Also here is link to HPW Diet Center to get more info on HPW. :)

Thanks, I am interested in ordering online I'm just looking for an appropriate alternative while I wait for something to be shipped because I don't want to feed the pellets the glider is coming with. HPW complete is what I'm considering feeding long term.

Bml is fairly easy and helped my babies recover from their bad diets fairly quickly. When I first got mine they had staining and ratty looking tails. Now their just a beautiful as they ever could be ;)

I have a question about the BML diet. I already have reptiles, and reptile vitamins- but they're different brands. I can see why you wouldn't substitute a multivitamin: they likely have different nutritional profiles- but why can't I substitute a non phosphorus calcium with D3 of another brand: it's the same exact supplement under a different label, yet the recipe specifically says no substitutions. Does anyone know why or have any thoughts on this?

Different brands of calcium, even for reptiles, may have different amounts of calcium PER TEASPOON - so using another brand might change the amount of calcium you are adding to the mixture.

The same is true for vitamins - probably more so than calcium - the amounts of each vitamin in a teaspoon amount may be VERY different between brands.
