So today when feeding my babies, i realized how pudgy Bobbin is starting to look. I do not have a scale yet to weigh him but i am considering picking one up. The breeder i got him from has a few fat gliders and she said she thinks it's genetic for some of them. What are average weights for healthy gliders? Does having a fat glider mean you're doing something wrong with the diet? His cage mate (though still new to our family) looks normal to me. They get HPW with fresh fruits and veggies. For treats I give them mealies, crickets, and yoggies (their favorite!! i think i give them at least one a day- usually on my way to work. maybe that's too much?)
I tend to pride myself in having healthy animals. I have a red heeler, pit-dalmatian, and a siamese cat who are healthy solid muscle due to the diets i keep them on (i get vet compliments on their health). I feel a bit crushed having a pudgy glider but as long as it isn't a health risk I think i could deal. Are there special diets to help trim fat off a glider? Or am I worrying too much?
Thanks!

Best bet is to ask a vet. Obese gliders have lumps in the patagium, "wing" membrane area. Gliders come in all shapes and sizes:)

well he is not "obese" yet, just getting chunky. He had a vet visit last week and the vet said nothing about his weight. Im just concerned that he'll keep getting bigger :-(

not sure. I plan to pick up a scale tomorrow. I was feeding and playing with him tonight and he just looks so wide. He is definitely gaining weight but i wouldnt call him obese. Ive seen gliders way bigger/fatter - i just want to keep him from going that path - if it's even possible. He's a very active boy. He LOVES his wheel. Is it possible some gliders are just genetically bigger in size?

I think some are just genetically bigger, just like some are petite! I have a couple of bigger boys here, who are related, and the females are petite.

I guess I'm retarded. I got a scale and my baby is only 80grams. He just looks so big - like his neck is much wider than my female. Well at least i know he's not as chunky as i thought...

I thought the same thing about my male, Harpy, after I got Athena, my female. In comparison to Athena, Harpy is a chub. But he is very active and playful, and he has no lumps on his gliding membrane as mentioned above. I think he's just a big boy. :)

yay ms cora!!! oh he's fantastic! i love my babies soo much! I'll have to post a side by side of him with Button sometime. He's so much "rounder" looking than her He also is a food hog.If you dont watch him, he'll pull treats out of her hands because he eats faster than her. Ill give them each a mealie and he'll scarf it down while she's casually taking her time, then he thinks because she is still eating, that she should share [LOL ]At least this makes it easy to tell them apart!!
harpy - i had bobbin about 4 weeks before picking up button so this is the first time ive had another glider with him to really compare him to. I think, like you once did, that after reevaluating my assessment of his weight that he is fine ... he's just bigger than my female.
