Hey all.... OK so I have ordered all my stuff for my LGRS and will be making up a batch and switching over.
I am hoping to document with pictures to see if there is any difference in there coats, weight ect. My babies already look pretty good on the Instant HPW and balanced fruits and veggies so I am curious to see if there will be a big difference.
I have tried BML then switched to HPW complete then to the Instant HPW. I have seen overall improvement with each switch but the biggest improvement is when I went from the HPW complete to the Instant HPW. I know there is alot of controversy over diets on here and I am not saying others are better or worse, all I am saying is this has been my experience with said diets
I just recently found this site and have been reading reading reading. Not much posting but again a ton of reading
Has anyone else done this switch and seen major difference when switching from HPW? If so did you document with pictures?
Thanks for all your help and info, Here are some pictures of my babies as well!! <hr noshade size="1"> After momma gave me a tummy rub...

Sleepy Heads

O.K. Im a wake now...

Here I come momma...
I must see whats out there...

Hi Sugie Bandit,
What did you feed before you fed LGRS? I really like the low cholesterol, low fat, higher protein idea along with being able to feed more of a variety of fruits and veggies =)
What does your weekly feeding schedule look like? I am hoping to be able to feed whatever fresh fruits veggies I have for the week to the suggies as well (of course after I have properly measured the items to be 2:1 like your supposed to. I eat a very fresh diet =) I have celiac and leukemia so try to eat as healthy as possible .
Is it really really important to balance the 2:1 ratio with the LGRS like with HPW and BML?

Well it all depends what HPW someone was feeding. Some have seen improvement in energy and coat color after switching off variations of the HPW to the Original HPW or another good diet such as LGRS.
The HPW's now consist of The Original HPW, Complete HPW, Plus HPW, and Instant HPW. You might check out some of the info here: http://www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?Diet

Hi Viciousencounters,
I personally have used BML, HPW Complete, Instant HPW, and will now be trying out LGRS. I am currently using Instant HPW, which I have no problems with as it has been my preferred choice out of the 3 I have tried. All my suggies are a good weight and there coats look good, no breaking, or anything. They get out for 2 hours a night not including sleeping on me when I am being lazy and when they are awake and out they are always running, jumping, & gliding there little tails off , trying to get into trouble. So health wise I think they are just fine and I know the saying "why fix something that isn't broken" but this LGRS diet just seems to be a great diet with more room for variety?
I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Especially when there are so many of you on here that know quite a bit more than I do and I value your opinions!!

I linked the diet page sense all 3 of the HPW's are on that page and if you follow the links you can find before and after pictures for some diets.
Amberlynn, you really have started off on the right foot, I admire that! Keep doing what your doing.

Too many HPW's. It is kinda confusing. Can they be referred to as Original, Complete, and instant?

Not really with the link to Peggys website on here....LOL! (Peggy doesn't make Instant)
Peggys are: ORIGINAL HPW, HPW PLUS, HPW COMPLETE
Exotic Nutriton: INSTANT HPW
Original HPW and Instant HPW contain High Protein Wombaroo Supplement.
HPW Plus & Complete do not contain High Protein Wombaroo Supplement.
Maybe that can clear it up a bit.

I don't think Instant HPW restricts the variety of fruits/veggies you can feed - with any diet, even LGRS, checking ca:ph ratios is important, but if you are providing a well-rounded variety incorporating some of the higher calcium items you should be fine! Your gliders look great so I'd be inclined to keep up what you are doing :)

I believe they have always been on LGRS, at least since we got them from the mill. I don't know how important it is to balance the 2:1 ratio, and I can honestly say I have some difficulty with it (numbers have never been my strong point). In addition to the suggie soup, I give them fresh veggies, fruits, herbs and protien, every evening. So far it seems to be working for us. I guess I'm a little old school, but I truly believe that if I offer them everything, every day, then their little bodies will let them know what they need. I have some days when I collect their kitchen that they haven't touched one thing or another, but will devour something else. Most nights, they eat very well, and once in a while they will barely touch their dinner.
I think my biggest problem has been with the papaya. I don't know if I'm just not getting good papaya's where I live, or if we (me, Chip & Dale) just don't like them. They have no flavor, so they pick around them from their fruit bowl.

guess i am wondering why you switch diets so often if your gliders are doing well on the diet that you are feeding at the time.
my thing is if it isnt broke dont fix it.

Hi Nancy, When I got my first gliders I fed them BML, the diet I could readily buy at the grocery store. It was recognized so I felt it was appropriate. There coats and weight were ok but after a while i started to notice there coats getting a little broken, did some research and switched them to the HPW complete. After 6 months or so and with some overall improvement in coats but not to much in weight and with more research/reading decided to switch to Instant HPW because it had the High Protein Wombaroo Supplement in it. Since I have seen great improvement in coat and weight.
Then i found this site.... read about LGRS and then more research/reading.
Looks to be a wonderful diet. I like many things about it. This is the reason for my switch.
I understand the "Why fix something that isn't broken" mato I actually used that reference myself in my first post
Just trying to do my best for them thats all
