Peekaboo and Fizzgig LOVE mealies. However, when I took them to the vet, she recommended I give them super worms and crickets as I'm trying to fatten them up. Problem is they have zero interest in them. The first batch of crickets I got were pretty big, the second batch were much smaller. Didn't matter though, they kind of looked at them once or twice then scampered off. Same deal with the super worms. Is this normal? Or are my babies just fickle? LOL

Some take some convincing to try new bugs. They don't recognize them at first.

As usual, try taking the heads off, and letting your gliders lick/smell the insides. That usually convinces them!

Yep! Rue hated mealies at first. Wouldn't touch them. I had to mash up the insides for him

I'm used to gross things! I used to have a snake that I fed baby mice to. If he wasn't in the mood to eat then I would have to get some of their internal juices out. . . that usually got him hungry.

ewwww nasty. My first 2 won't touch mealies but my other 2 love them. My first 2 do like crickets though so that good for my little girl that needs to gain weight but bad for my boy who is a fattie! lol

I'm not sure why your vet feels that super worms or crickets are best to help a glider gain weight. Mealies are plenty fattening(crickets really aren't and I won't feed them due to aflatoxin risks) and super worms you have to cut the heads off (EWWWW!)

I would try upping their main diet(BML, HPW, etc.) portion a bit and possibly offer "glider crack" (an avocado based receipe) for the weight gain rather than other bugs.

I was giving them the BML, but they never finished it all and some nights barely even touched it. I was thinking about swithcing to one of the HPWs but, in the meantime, I started offering them a variety of fruits and veggies every night (trying to see what they actually like - they're slightly picky) with a protein (egg/mealie/cheese omelette, boiled chicken, ground turkey) and a little ensure or yogurt a few times a week. I'm starting to get a handle on their likes/dislikes and they are slowly but surely putting on weight and their coats are starting to look much better. They love their mealies but I wanted to give them a little more variety. The scale I bought is super sensitive and it's hard to get an accurate read when they wiggle so much. I'm taking them to the vet again tomorrow to get their nails trimmed and they'll weigh them again to see how much progress we've made. Thanks everyone for your input!
