I'm curious; what do you all feed your gliders for their fresh protein foodstuffs?

I feed mine mostly tofu, but I'm having trouble preserving the darn stuff. It molds fast and I end up throwing out whole blocks. : Any other ideas for staple protein products for suggie?

I also feed hard boiled eggs as his other mainstay. He gets bees pollen and gliderade on his stuff, and also has dry cat food available at all times. Less often I give him nuts and sunflower seeds. Chicken/turkey on occassion too, but the tofu was easy because I used it when I didn't wanna cook anything. I have a problem with dried crickets/bugs because all the brands I've seen are out of China and other third world countries and I've heard they use insecticides to kill them. >.>;;

Suggestions for quick/easy proteins?

Lean meats...beef, chicken, turkey, shrimp. Mine LOVE eggs-especially scrambled. If I mix veggies in, they eat those too. I don't know if you've read all the info on soy products but I personally don't think I'd feed it very often. Let me know if you need the link to read about it. Usually with meats, if I'm cooking, I'll put some aside before I season it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do pretty much all of what you mentioned - I just like having a base protein thing in the fridge that I can throw in there if I haven't cooked any meat/forgot to leave some out for him. He likes scrambled eggs to, though I think hard boiled is his favorite.

No, I haven't read anything about soy in suggies. I did recently see an article regarding carcenogenic health effects in soy diets and hexane used to treat soybeans, but as far as I know tofu and plain soy beans are not treated and don't have high omega six/cancer causing properties. That was just in human diets too, but I'd like to see the link if you have it around.

I dont know how many gliders you have, but I have 4. One large boneless, skinless chicken breast will feed my gliders for several days.

Like Kyro, my gliders love scrambled eggs when some of their veggies are thrown in. Every now and then, they get shrimp.

I also have to agree with Kyro about the tofu. Gliders need meat.

You can cook chicken and chop it up and freeze it and then you can just take out what you need. Also catfood is bad for them. Mealworms are also very easy you can buy them live at petstores (keep in fridge). Mine love them.

Only up to 5 mealworms a day, since they are mostly fat. =)

Might try freezing some chickens - I feed him fresh chicken breast and turkey a lot, I just wanted something that I could pop in the fridge easily.

What's the deal with tofu specificly?

You may want to check out Phoenix worms, too. They're supposed to be pretty healthy for suggies. You can get them through Exotic Nutrition. I haven't tried them for my gliders yet, but they sound like a good idea.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into these - anyone know if Phoenix Worms are product of USA or not?

Molly, I feed yogurt drops and I did try giving him a cup of regular yogurt as a treat once, but I dunno about all that lactose and cultures... kinda weird in large quantities. XD I just give him licks outta my yogurt cups or off my fingers every now and then and then the yogurt drops.
