Ok i just want to start that i love my suggies and i take real good care of them!!

I just hit a financial snag and my gliders are out of the BML ingredients not all of them though!! I have zoo keepers secret that i use to give once or twice as a treat...so i have been giving them that. yes i know it is not a proper diet but i dk what to do!? I mean it is so bad that my fiance and myself only eats once a day to help save the groceries.

So please dont bash me this is why i am on here trying to find another way till friday. I am not asking for any "charity" just to see if you guys have another alternative.

Thanks!

I completely understand going through the financial snag I am in your boat right now! Do you maybe have enough stuff around your house to do the 50/25/25?

I agree with the 50/25/25 even if you only have enough to do one veggie and one fruit. All it takes is a tablespoon of a veggie and a tablespoon of fruit, and 2 tablespoons of protein per glider.

I think we've all felt the financial strain of things lately, but still want to take care of our beloved pets.

Personally I live at home with my parents, and I am still unable to find employment. But I've scraped up my last 100$ dollars to buy a friend for my lone suggie.

I think we all show true love for these members of our families on this site.

Christina--how about some eggs? Eggs are pretty inexpensive, and one will easily feed them. Scramble one up in the microwave.

I know you take excellent care of your gliders. I am so sorry to read you all are going through such a tough time right now.

Some frozen veggies can be bought in small bags that are a lot cheaper. Also if you get an apple you can chop up the rest and freeze and just take out what you need for the day. (same with kiki, pear)

I agree -- eggs! One scrambled egg is enough for two or even three, if you get jumbo. For a few days don't worry too much about ratios, a bag of frozen veggies and an apple or a pear would be enough to get them through; since you feed BML you could sprinkle on a pinch of vitaminss and minerals. Sometimes we have to improvise in a pinch.

Another thing would be the skinless boneless Tyson chicken breasts. A pack of those only cost a couple of dollars but it will last forever. Boil it or bake it. Most gliders like chicken and it's a good protein source. I personally don't like the idea of using pork. If I had to choose between pork and eggs I'd just stick with the eggs.

I am always in a jam with money. These day money is just something i dont have, but my gliders are feed well. I unfortently cant do any of the mixs online b/c u need to buy some of the stuff online...so i do 25 25 50 and it works great, and its fairly cheap. Frozen veggies are very inexpensive. And as someone stated earlier eggs and chicken is cheap as well. I kno I feel bad often b/c i feel like im not givingthem the best care aval. b/c of finacial reasons, but my boysd are both happy healthy, and very very loving. They get proper vet care as well. I think people place to emphisis on money. I mean they can be expensive, but they dont HAVE TO BE. BUT you do need to make sure you have moeny for emergancys such as vet bills, etc..good luck!!!

cengland..i have the vitamins for the BLM mix if you want them. they are about 1.5 years old, but i dont think they go bad as they have been stored in the kitchen cabinet. I fed BML for one month and then switch diets. i remember them being expensive. i will send them to you if you want them....otherwise, i am going to eventually throw them out

Yes, you can freeze chicken like fruits and veggies. With the chicken, thaw, then boil or bake. With the fruits and veggies, I thaw them before serving. I'm glad you have everything you need now. Thank goodness. ^^

I go to the grocery store and buy up some of the reduced chicken breast or breast strips, tenderloins. A package can cost just about $2.00. I boil it up immediately and then rinse it off well to get off the yucky stuff left on it. I put it in little freezer bags and toss it in the freezer. One package of tenderloins will feed five gliders about three days so you could get 5 to 6 days of meat from it. I put it in a bowl of water and deforst it in the microwave. This way it doesn't dry out. Since they are sap suckers I try to keep it as moist as possible during reheating.

If you already have some and need to defrost it you can do it in the microwave or while you are boiling it. Just boil it slowly so it cooks all the way through. I boil mine on medium heat.

They will be just fine with the chicken, eggs, mixed vegetables and fruit until you get more stuff for BML. They will probably go nuts for the chicken and the eggs and feel it's like having a treat. Mine hardly touch their mix anymore because they love all the other stuff more. I still make it and put it in their cage but there are many mornings that it's not been touched. I don't feed BML I just do the leadbeater's mix but give my babies all the stuff mentioned above. Sometimes I give them a small bowl of yogurt too.

Also you could check to see if your grocery store has any scraps from produce or anything they could donate. I used to work in produce and we threw away anything with a dent or bruise or a slight bad spot in it. I would be careful about using anything that has a fungus on it, but perhaps you could get some greens and cut off any bad part. It is worth a shot to ask!

Keep an eye for any sales of produce, and I agree that inexpensive bags of frozen veggies as well as chicken breast won't run you to the ground. I do hope that you will make sure they have a calcium supplement though, because this is of upmost importance, especially when you can't necessarily pick out fruits and veggies with the right ratios.

I think we all understand about finances, and I know I would happily go without eating to provide for my gliders and my cat. Take this time to make handmade toys or use simple things like bottle caps and the like instead of shopping at a pet store.
