Are suggies known to have hip problems? The one that I got from a lady a few days ago just doesnt look right to me. He is going to the vet tomorrow but just wondering if this is a problem with alot of gliders? He is skinny in his back end. You can feel his hip bones real good. His hair is missing on the back end, and when he crawls around he is constanly dropping urine. almost like a weak bladder. So again just wondering if anyone has this problem?

Most everything about this poor glider is not healthy. The urine seems not so out of the ordinary but the baldness and the hip problem is not good. As in your other post I wrote about diet related problems. The hip problem sounds like hind leg paralysis "HLP" from low calcium in his diet. Talk to your Vet about this. I've heard sometimes they can give a shot for calcium and then of course you changing his diet to include the proper ratio of Ca:PH 2:1 should hopefully stop and maybe reverse some of this. I'm so heart broken about this baby and the care he was getting from his previous owners. Thank you for SAVING him and hopefully under your care he will be able to live a much better and longer life. Talk openly and in length to your Vet about his health issues. Sounds like he has quite a few that poor thing.

This little glider needs to be seen by an exotic vet asap. Hind Leg Paralysis is fairly common in gliders and is caused by poor diet.

However, if caught in time it can be reversed. Here is an article on HLP:

cydni85.....What did the Vet say? Do you have an update for us on this poor baby. We really get to worry on here and since he is in such bad shape I was hoping you'd let us know what the Vet said.

Yogurt is a source of calcium - but not all are high in calcium.

When a glider gets this bad, yogurt is not going to fix things. Hopefully, this glider has seen a vet already.

Updates??

Well to make a long story short he has to see anther vet. This vet acted like he had know clue what to do with him. He says he looks fine, just under weight and over grooming. DUH!! I knew that and im not a vet! Well he looks like he is gaining weight already and is doing really good with me.

I know that they can give a glider with low calcium a calcium shot, but it has to be done in the right volume/concentration or it could lead to their hearts stopping. Did your vet suggest giving a calcium shot to try to stop the HLP? I am going to pray that you can find an experienced vet and soon! Where are you? Perhaps one of us is near you and can suggest a good vet.
