No seasonings...no salt, pepper, butter, garlic etc. Parsley, however, is safe for gliders and would add a bit of flavor and calcium to the meat. Hamburger meat is alright every once in a while, just make sure it's a lean cut like 90/10. Ground turkey or ground chicken can be good alternatives to ground beef...and healthier too!

I'm rather new doing my research, so please excuse this question if its been asked many times before....how do you prepare ground turkey/chicken for your suggies?

Also, the meat usually comes in large quantities (1 lb. or more) without wasting it. The only way I can think of is dividing it into individual little portions before you freeze it....am I correct?

Wow...I really trashed my last sentence...I meant to say, how do you prepare little individual portions without wasting it all.

Not a problem! Ground chicken, turkey and beef can all be prepared the same way. I usually either brown it in a pan on the stove (like you're cooking taco meat) , or make patties and cook it on a george foreman grill...cook it until all of the pink is gone. And in regards to portioning, making individual portions and freezing it would work...but what I do is just cook a smaller, non-seasoned version of whatever I'm making for dinner that night. If we're having chicken, they get chicken..etc. Hope I helped!

I dont give my gliders pork becuase it's one of the most difficult meats to digest.

As far as ground hamburger, turkey or chicken - I always put it in a pot of boiling water until its cooked. Then use a strainer so that most of the fat is drained out.

If you do fry it in a skillet, then put it in a strainer and run warm water over it so you get most of the fat off.

As far as preparing smaller portions, you can measure out what portion you want to feed nightly and freeze in individual servings. OR you can serve it to the suggies fresh for a night or two and eat the rest yourself.

Again - you CAN add herbs to their food. Sesame seeds are also a good source of calcium.

a trick i found with the ground chicken/turkey. i put the entire pound in a big 1 gallon ziploc freezer bag, close the bag, then flatten out the meat so its as big as the bag and very thin. i freeze it flat. then when i need some, i just break off a piece and drop it in boiling water

I get the bag of chicken breast strips boil them cut them into serving sizes and freeze them. I do the same for turkey I use the Jeanie O turkey strips. before she wakes up I run it under some water drop it in her bowl and heat it up about 10-15 secs in the microwave. She loves it because it is still moist and warm when she gets up to eat.

I do this same thing but with the cooked ground turkey. I'll break off enough for a meal and let it thaw, either in the fridge or the microwave. Chicken is cooked, then cubed, frozen and finally bagged. I can get out a dozen pieces without having to thaw the whole thing.

Quite often I'll season the poultry with a little sage or bay leaf while it's cooking. Sometimes I cook it in apple juice/water, and sometimes I'll cook it with celery, carrots and bell pepper. With ground turkey I cut the veggies into a very small dice, and freeze the whole thing together. Then they get them with their meat; and I add more fresh to make up the tablespoon per glider.
