A glider that I just got (I was told was a girl) we now think the previous owner was misinformed and that she is a he. there appears to be a small pom ans thinning of hair on the head. Does the pom start small and grow larger over time and how long does a bald spot take to fully form once it has started? I guess his being a boy and not a girl would explain why one of my other males at first was not bonding well. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

sounds like a boy to me. the bald spot might not get big or start to go away a bit if he isnt around any female gliders.

Be careful... get those boys neutered unless you want to have joeys coming out of your ears. I would also be worried about too many males around a female when she comes into heat as they will compete to breed her and she very well might get seriously hurt in the process.

Then if you are certain you want to have joeys, then I would suggest visiting the following site to learn all you can about breeding and raising joeys. It's also a great resource to rely on in case of joey rejection.

Definitely sounds like a male to me... I would assume their testes descend over time much like humans...

Another thing you should know is if you haven't already introduced the new glider. DON'TThey need proper intros including a quarantine and all of them need 2 vet visits to check for parasites. (Vet visits are necessary either way and ESPECIALLY if you are breeding.)

If you are adament about breeding, I would also have a rejection kit ( same site as Dahlia posted ) on hand too... Do you have lineage for these gliders and are you SURE they are of no relation? If you got them from the same breeder, there is a good chance they are and incest can have disasterous results.

Also be prepared to feed a high protien diet to the parents and be aware that quite often I've heard of parents cannibalizing the joeys due to stress, inbreeding or disease.

I really don't suggest breeding when there are so many out there without homes. Besides, if you have trouble telling apart the sexes of your gliders that might be a clear indication you should try them as "Just pets" until you gain more experience... =(

Well my new boy and one of my others got into a fight (gizmo and evora) (usually they just crab at each other) No one badly hurt just 2 small scratches (one on each) but we decided it best to take our new male out. I have been watching both of them and they are both ok with the separation. We put one of the females with him for now as they have really been sweet to each other but I'm worried that gizmo may miss gidget too much, so we are thinking maybe we should get another glider so evora (I know sounds girly may have to change his name) will not be alone and gidget and gizmo will not be separated. The cages are next to one another but not so close that anyone could grab another through the bars. Would I be better for me to get a male or female friend? I don't want to have another couple males fighting and I'm worried about that I will have that problem if I do get a male though evora wasn't the one starting the fights. Should I get another glider for evora, leave them as they are, or keep trying and see if gizmo and evora will bond. I just don't want anyone to get hurt or be alone.

so you have 2 males and one female? right? that is a bad mix. the males were probably trying to mate with the female and were fighting over her. dont put them back together or you could end up with a dead glider or have really really bad injuries. its up to you how you put pair them up. im sure you wont have a problem with a fight braking out as long as its not 2 males and one female. there wouldnt be anything for them to fight over. just find another glider real soon so that you can finish the 30 day quarantine asap.
