What are safe toy ideas for heavy chewers? I'm looking for toys without beads/craft lace as I don't want to create a choking hazard. I'm going to get some tree branches/euc chew sticks soon to hopefully satisfy some of their chewing urges, but i still want to provide them some toy options as well to have fun with.

Gliders chew branches, strip bark off trees to get sap and naturally chew on many things in their natural environment.

Mine chew toys and their wheels, but spit out the bits of plastic. They have chewed holes in rubber duckies and stripped the soft rubbery parts off of the baby links.

They have untied and chewed rex lace to drop beads all over the floor of the cage. They also like to munch on the plastic monkeys and plastic bracelets I hang around the cage.

Gliders are natural chewers and I do not think they are going to choke on the toys I provide in the cages any more than they are going to choke on a piece of corn on their dinner plate.

I do inspect toys frequently and replace those that have been chewed to the point of my gliders getting their head into them (rubber ducky type toys) but I am not worried about choking.

My little boy is a chewer, too. I use alot of fleece toys that I hand make, and just stay away from anything that has small parts or pieces that could easily be broken off. Mine seems to love toddler toys, if you're looking for something other than fleece.

Maybe the better question is what are some more durable options for chewers - I'd rather not spend a bunch of money on toys with beads/craftlace or time making them to have them gone in 2 minutes. Even if the beads aren't necessarily a choking hazard, the toy is ruined and all the beads fall through the tray and they aren't able to chew on it any longer. I've got a bunch of plastic monkeys on order, given them different balls, bracelets, etc. I'm thankful they do not chew on their wheel, yet...

They have also chewed off the fleece wrapped around their mesh tunnel and other toy - I think this particular colony just enjoys chewing, which is fine, but I need to find more durable options that will last a bit longer. When the monkeys get here, I will be putting them in a big basket with some other toys so they can chew and/or nest to their hearts content, but I also want to hang more "regular" type toys up as well.

If you order from myself, Davie (Spoiled Rotten Suggies) or Jen (The Glider Boutique) and tell us that you have chewers, we will give you toy options that have proven to hold up well to chewers.

I have several very heavy chewers, so creating toys that hold up to them is something that I have become quite good at.

Also, Brenda's cork bark tunnels and swings are GREAT for use with chewers. She can be PM'd on TSS (BCChins) as she does not have a store website yet.

Just looked at Brenda's cork swings and really like the looks of those! I will check into other vendors as well if the toy pit doesn't satisfy them enough.

I just heard back from Brenda - $20 each, which is a great price for that swing especially! I hope they like them!
