How do you guys keep yours fruits n veggies fresher longer? I absolutely hate having to go shopping once a week. Not that im going to stop, i'd just rather not go grocery shopping at midnight when i get out of work.

same as sjones.. I freeze most of everything.. I always cut up the melons and such and put them in a container and put in the freezer and I prepare food the next night in enough time for it to thaw before they eat and its always all gone..

My grandmother and mom taught me this trick. When you get home wash everything and let it dry on a paper towel or dish towel. The put each item in a ziplock bag with a large paper towel. It works! The fruit/veggies stay crip and fresh for a week. For large melons and such, I cut them up, lay in a single layer on a piece of wax paper and cookie sheet and freeze. When frozen, I transfer them to a ziplock and freeze. It sounds like a lot of work, but you aren't buying veggies/fruit to just throw away!

I use(d) the Ziplock brand vacuum bag setup. It's really pretty inexpensive for what it provides in food savings. They have a handful of bag sizes, and they're all made well enough to be washed and reused over and over. The hand pump seemed a little flimsy at first, but hasn't let me down yet during the year+ that I've had it, and when you get down to it, it really does work very well. Little cost, little effort=big results and big savings! (especially when you start doing things like buying multiple pounds of hamburger and splitting it up in one pound bags before tossing it in the freezer!)
