Depends where you go and the procedure.....vets here are 100+$$....I drive an hour and a half to mine 53$ for neutering and health exams/decals are pretty cheap as well, plus to that is a rescue goes to that vet as well so he is very experienced......so it's worth the trip!!
There is Pom off....which is what I get with a glue to close it up. My guys when right back in their cages with the others and I had no problems with over grooming/ripping site open at all...

There's Pom on

Then there's lazer....I heard its great (don't know personally) and no stitches or glue

Always have ecollar just in case.

Hey! So I actually work at an exotic animal hospital. We charge well over $100 for neutering and there is also a $57 exam fee. I can't give you an exact price but I'm guessing it would be in the neighborhood of $300-400. I know it's expensive but it's worth it!

For aftercare, the biggest thing is the fact that these little guys destroy their sutures. You need to constantly check on this and as the person above me said, fashioning an e-collar is often necessary. They can be a little sketchy under anesthesia but neuters are often very successful. Just make sure you're vet is VERY experienced with sugar gliders!

My Dexters neutering was $150 and that was with an E-collar, pain meds and the antibiotics they sent home with him. He did the "pom off" with sutures.

Dexter went after his stitches immediately as he was coming out of anesthesia so the vet e-collared him right away.
I put him in with his sister right away and he only wore his ecollar until the next day.

I drive an hour north and pay $60 for my neutering. $30 for a fecal and the exam fee was waived for me since it was their first visit there :)

The vets in my town charge anywhere from $300-$400

Neutering my male cost $125, which is about the same price they charge to neuter a dog. They did a pom-on surgery with a laser -- it was minimally invasive and my boy was up and about like nothing had happened as soon as the anesthesia wore off.

I've read that there are chances of self-mutilation as a result of the glider being in pain, but my vet said she had never had any of her patients experience that problem. Pain medication should decrease the risk of that happening.

My vet said that they can normally rejoin their colony that same day, but she suggested that I keep my boy in a separate for a day since I mentioned that my girl can sometimes be a little snippy and aggressive. Other than that, I didn't experience any problems, nor did I have to really do anything special afterward. My boy and girl had a very sweet reunion the next day.

I guess I was lucky in the sense that my boy, Paulie, has always had a loving temperament, so I didn't notice any differences in that respect after the neuter. The smell has gone down TREMENDOUSLY since the neuter and I am sooo thankful.

Sheldon's neuter was $291 which included pain meds. His was a Pom off, glue and suture. He went after the neuter site as he was coming out of anesthesia so the vet gave him lots of local pain med and he never went for it again. I was able to put him in with Penny that same night and we luckily had no problems at all. He readily lapped up his after surgery pain med, metacam. Smell is down and his scent gland on his head is completely gone.

I highly recommend laser neuter if you can find a good vet that does it. I just had one of my boys done today and he's doing beautifully. He hasn't even peeked at the site since he woke up, and right now he's sleeping happily with his family as if nothing ever happened. From the stories that I've read, it seems that the sutures can be the #1 cause of irritation that leads to post neuter complication. With laser, there really isn't a need for sutures, so as soon as my boy woke up, he just kinda went back to sleep as if nothing had happened.

VCA Woodford Animal Hospital, I used to work there so I won't go anywhere else. It's in Versailles. Dr Jolly sees my gliders, he's new to it, but he's an amazing vet and has done a ton of research for me.

I think it's $100 (I used to work for him so he still gives me the family discount on occasion). He does laser and it's awesome. I just brought little Moe back home and stuck him in with his family and he's snoozin away.
