i dont no how to sign up there but can someone ask if she has called the rspca and if she hasnt can someone post the ph number for her on the site so she can contact them because clearly its a situation where it needs to be done
I sent her an email telling her to call the aspca last night, and I attached the thing from here on florida law, because it is very specific on how large a glider cage has to be. But I can't make her call. :(
I'm so pissed at this lady. She refuses to contact spca because she's convinced that there is nothing that they can do for the gliders and that the owners will be able to keep them. Fact is, if what she is saying is true, they are in direct violation of Florida law, and some action will be taken. She thinks that the animals will end up in a bigger cage with a bigger bed but nothing else (better food, toys, love, etc). I tried to tell her that there are rescue groups who are very selective about who can adopt the gliders, but there is just no reasoning with her! Those poor gliders aren't going to get help because she won't contact the spca! She said in her email to me that there are 12 gliders being housed this way. That's horrible!
I dont know how much it will help but as soon as i reed this i posted a bulletin on my myspace to get someone to try and help. All my friends live in Florida so i hope someone calls to rescue the suger gliders. I also asked that if they couldnt help to please repost the bulletin and get the word out.
cant someone just say to the girl i am wanting to buy a pair and then get the person to contact the person etc and get the adress to "pick the gliders up" but instead just use the address and ph number to report it to "aspca" or whatever it is called in the US
thats probably the best idea? if someone just says they want to buy them then they will get given the addy etc simple :)
OK Sorry so late. Spoke to mom today. She is very involved with the humain society of Pasco cnty. The realy have no money to buy them, but they can take them and will work with them to find good homes. Mom states they have a real big cage that they use for squirrels, no squirrels now. I don't know if this will help but it's an option.
Thanks guys! It's been hard work, I have always done rescues but never such a big group! (12 in one shot is alot) But they are getting what they need. If anyone can suggest any place that has cheap cages or will give discounts for rescues please let me know. Here are links to how they were kept, and our smallest in the group whcih we have named Tinkerbelle (48g)
Oh my gosh, that 2nd picture looks JUST like Skitzi. I mean, JUST like. The picture doesn't show it as well but when I clicked on it, I had to do a double take. Weird.
I have a question, Now that u have them what are u going to do with them? I know my brother-in-law has a lady he works with that wants to get some gliders. This might u help get ride of two of them. Were are u located at?
Well first priorty is getting them healthy, second to get the males neutered, and only then will I consider adopting them out to approved homes. I will keep you posted on the progress of the group. Thanks!

I applaud you and thank you for the above. They are in good hands now.
I really don't think that this is a sad thing. The 12 are really LUCKY to have someone like Adri to take all of them at one time!!!!! I really applaud you on taking the initative to take on all 12 of them. I wish I was closer so I could maybe help in some small way. GOOD LUCK ON ALL THAT YOU DO WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just read this forum. :) I am so happy you rescued those poor babies. And thanks simisoni for posting this otherwise they may not have a such a wonderful chance for recovery and a new life!
Oh, a lady posted saying that she went to pick up a pair of gliders and that there were 12 or so more (she later emailed me and said 20, but I'm not sure of the number) and that they were living in 1x1x1 cages and sleeping in their food dishes. The owners were selling them for $75 a pair, and she was trying to get people to go with her to go and get them. She tended to change her story here and there, so I'm not sure what the actual circumstances were, you would have to ask adri who rescued them. I couldn't go and get them because I didn't have the money or room or cages, but I hoped that someone here would.
I'm really glad that everything has worked out. I hope Adri keeps us updated!
Adri: If you are looking for someone to help with those gliders and willing to travel a little to get them to a good experianced home, then let me know. i have had three gliders but curently only have two and would like to add more.. I am living in Athens GA.
