I recently lost one of my beloved suggies and I wanted to alert everyone as to how.

Several weeks ago I had purchased one of those "Small Animal Jungle Huts" that was highly recommended for Suggies...I am pretty sure I even bought it through a link on a Sugar Glider website...Anyway...My little girls absolutely loved it so I thought that was great. Well...the joy didn't last for long...

Saturday morning when I checked on my girls, they were fine. Went to work and came home that evening...When I went down to play with them I noticed MaylaRose didn't coming running over when I came down the steps. I looked in the cage and she was hanging there motionless with a small piece of thread from the inside of the hut. She was still alive, but not moving. I stayed up all night with her hoping she would snap out of it. I called my vet first thing Sunday morning and they said to try and warm her and give her liquids and vitamins to try and pep her up...That she may just be shocked, but will revive. I explained that I had already been doing that all night and that I hadn't been to sleep yet. I was advised to give it time and try not to stress her any more then neccasary... My poor little girl struggled and fought and fought and fought. She would not stop breathing...eventhough she seemed to be paralyzed...she would not give up. Monday morning I called my vet again and told them that I could see it in her eyes that she was miserable and that I wanted to bring her in to have her euthanized...and they agreed... My daughter came home from school early and found her in the bottom of the tank cold and motionless. She was still breathing 2hrs before that, but now she was finally out of her misery. The vet feels that the thread had cut off the circulation to her leg and that she had gone into shock and was unable to recover. I am just so angry and upset over the fact that she suffered for so long. I told my husband we are switching vets b/c I don't think they handled the situation properly and I am letting everyone know about this horrible product.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Sending thoughts, prayers and hugs to you and your family. I do have to ask..was it one of the triangle ones with zebra or leopard print? I have 2 of those and want to make sure I remove them if that's the case. Since it's already a topic, I'll also post a reminder about the hibiscus bird hideaway from Petco as well. I happened to be in the room when one of my girls got caught up in loose strings around her neck and I had to cut them off. Although I wish it hadn't been through such a heartbreaking loss, thank you for the warning.

Sarah, Im so sorry for the loss of your little suggie. Thank you so much for coming here and posting this warning. As heart-wrenching as this is, your post may very well save another suggies life.

Everyone please check all of your fabric suggie items for loose threads before putting them in the suggie cage. Check them everytime they are washed. Clip off any loose threads anytime you see one. Also be very careful about using any kind of ribbon, string or rope.

thank you for warning us. I bought one of these a very long time ago for my first glider and still have it. The zebra one i think. Would the bird huts be a problem too? its brown, has a yellow butterfly on the side and looks like a tree stump.

I also bought a few of the bird huts after I first got Tilly. They didnt wash well and I had a heck of a time getting her out as the opening was so small I couldnt get my hand in there. That's why I quit using them, not because I knew they were dangerous.... I didnt.

I am so sorry for your loss sarah! Thank you for taking the time to let us all know of the danger, you may just have saved another suggies life! *hugs*

Are there any safe petstore products for gliders? So far all my fleece have been made for me or came with them. The only other things I have are a sherbet bridge, barrel of monkeys, and some baby links.
