Hi everyone,

I just found out that I need to travel from Houston Tx. to Ft. Lauderdale Fl. on Monday. Im going by car and will be there for 3 weeks so Im going to need to pack up my furry children lol(Frankie and Cinnamon). Any suggestions on the best way to get them there as stress free as possible AND get them to adjust to a new surrounding?

If you are stopping at any hotels, either find out their pet policy or take your chances and don't tell them you have pets. They might be hard to hide from a cleaning person though! Are you staying somewhere they will have their own area? With family? Other pets around? I'd say maybe bring a tent with you so you can have tent time with them at night and play with them as much as possible when they're awake. Are you taking their cage? If not, take lots of things from their cage so it's familiar.

Definitely bring plenty of familiar toys. Travel during daylight hours so that they're not cooped up in a travel pouch when they're awake. I've had to railroad gliders and been caught on the road at night...it wasn't fun. The gliders were upset and I was upset for them. Offer them a snack like an apple or some grapes during the trip and keep them out of drafts from open windows or AC. Also, don't put them near a radio speaker...especially if you play your music loud. Another issue is what to carry them in if you make a pit stop. It's way too hot here to leave them in the car even for a few minutes to run into a rest area. I usually have my kids in a sissy pouch (something that closes securely) and tuck it under my shirt when I run inside. Those are just a few things to consider. Be careful on your drive...lots of brush fires around now.

make sure if you take them in there cage on the road, take everything out unless it is tied down!! you don't want things to fly around the cage that may harm them. I leave the water bottles on and the pouch in. Thats all I have in it. I have a cage that fits perfect in my back seat on the passenger side. I leave a blanket over it during travel to lessen the noise, draft, lights, ect. make sure you have water available for them the whole time, stress and dehydration would not be fun while you are away from home. I traveled in the winter, so my blanket over the cage was also for protection if it needed to be taken out on the road. Usually if im not going for long road trips they sleep in a long sleeve t-shirt with it tucked in. thats ok as long as you are able to feel them and can control them to keep them from getting loose and getting in the dash. if you are not used to them that much, go with the way you feel safest for you and them. when you get to the hotel, you may want to consider keeping a light blanket over the cage during the day in case the hotel is louder than home. That would be something you would have to decide on your own on how loud the hotel is compared to home. have a safe road trip!

I always put my gliders in small travel cages at night since they can chew out of bonding pouches and we've had that happen.

Even when traveling int he day my gliders are up from all the excitement until we've driven for about an hour they settle down, the at all th pit stosp to feed them they wake back up and get admired by people who see them.
