My sugar glider hasn't been drinking water for a few days. I am getting worried about her. She drinks the yogurt juice. She isn't bonded to me yet so she wont let me close enough to check and see if shes dehydrated. Help I don't know what to do.

Not sure what you mean by yogurt juice. How are you offering the water and how are you able to tell if she's drinking it or not? I only ask because I rarely see mine drink-I just know I have to refill it because the water gets lower. Is she getting fresh fruit that she's eating-she may be getting water that way. It also isn't a bad idea to get her in for a vet check. Dehydration is very, very serious for suggies.

She eats fresh fruit and veggies. The water never gets low in the water bottle. I put a dish in with water last night. Yogurt juice is for babies.

my little guy doesn't like water either. i have a water bottle and if its just water it takes over a week for the water to move and i think thats just b/c it drips every now and then. But if i put juice in it its gone by morning. I'm thinking i'm going to water down some 100% apple juice and that way he'll still get the water and less of the sugar from the juice even though i get the kind with as little juice as possible.

Giving them some watered down apple juice is a very good idea to get them to drink. Make certain it is 100% natural apple juice. Everyday, put less juice in until they are drinking only water.

You should stop giving her the yogurt juice as she really needs to drink her water.

My girls love their water and I do see and hear them drinking out of the water bottles.

Speaking of water, you should ALWAYS have at least two sources of water in their cage at all times. You never know when a water bottle will malfunction and leak dry or if they will tip a water bowl over.

Read what Rita said again...that is the perfect advise...
I have a water bottle (which I have never seen them drink from) and two water bowls that hand on the sides of the cage...every morning they are both either half full or almost empty.

I also give them in a bowl on the cage floor gliderade...which is mixed with 5 parts water.....

I would also take her to the vet to be checked...is she eating enough and does she have a cagemate???? How old is she?

Hey Linzie, Maybe the water bottle is to full. I have one that I can only fill up about half way or it vapor locks. Put your finger on the bottom where the water comes out and see if you can get it to start the water flowing that way.
I'm off until Monday but I can bring up the water bottle she is used to then. Just email me so I know which end of town to start work on monday.

I use the little hanging ones that came with my cage. My suggies are almost too big to accidentally drown in it. The only way i can see that happening is if they got knocked out and fell head first in the bowl. They actually drink out of the bowl more than the water bottle. I actually caught my boy Roper chilling out with his tail in the bowl.

I swear by the glass Lixit bottles. You can get them from Lucky You gliders. They are a little more expensive than what you pay at Walmart - but there are just some things that you get what you pay for. And water bottles are one of them. I found that out the day one of mine leaked all day and I came home from work to find it empty. Thats the reason for always having two water bottles!!

Ya i have one of those Glass Lixit Bottles. Before i used some plastic one that came with my gliders. I came home from work one day and my boys was laying on the cage floor dehydrated because the bottle locked up. He looked like he just crossed a desert. I freaked out and immediately hand fed him water, he got better pretty quick. The point is that you get what you pay for.

I have been using the Glass Lixit Bottles for well over a year now and never had a problem with them. BUT, I still check them every morning and first thing when I get home from work just to be safe.

To check them, I just take my finger and push on the little ball thingy inside the drinking tube. If water comes out with no problem then all is good!

The Glass Lixit Bottles are $8.00 plus shipping. Petco used to carry them, but I havent seen them in awhile.

I give them water in a bowl. I use the white ceramic souffle dishes for both their food and water. They are good thick heavy ones and our girls have only managed to tip one over once or twice in the 2 years I have used them. The dish with the water has never tipped over, only the near empty food dishes. They work great for us.

She seems to be drinking more now that I decided to post this. I think she might have been having problems with the bottle too. Thanks happyhousewife. She eats the majority of her food every night. Thanks

If you are still wondering if she is drinking the water you can use a syringe (the kind with measurements) to find out. Fill up a bowl or water bottle with a specific measurement, then when you get home from work measure the amount of water remaining. I know suggies are small and won't drink a cup of water or anything; however, this is somewhat more exact than eyeballing the bottle and saying it looks lower.
