Glider Bonding:
To bond with your glider there are several bonding techniques you could use. Go ahead and try some if you like. [but take into account that sugargliders all react diferently to certain types of bonding. :]
Bonding Types:
1.] Bonding Pouch- Bonding pouch ae pouchs that zip at the top [but have plastic mesh for air] and have a necklace-like string at the top. To bond with your sugar glider using this simply put the pouch string around your neck and put your glider inside of the pouch. [Zipping it is only necessary for sleeping gliders or wild gliders] Here's where you can find some glider bonding pouches:

2.] Tent Time- I've honestly never done tent time with my sugarglider but I have heard from others how great it works! All you do is get into a closed tent with your sugar glider and play with them. I've heard it works so well because it provides a closed off [and I must mention safe] environment for your glider and you to bond. :D

3.] Getting them Used To You- To get your glider used to you, you could put strips of cloth in your pockets or bra- [girls only sorry!] and wear them there for a day then put them in your gliders pouch. Or you could put a t-shirt you wore that day over your sugar glider's cage. :] This allows them to get used to your scent. :]

Glider Discipline:
I know they're cute and tiny but discipline may be neccesary in order to tame your sugar glider. But no worries punishments are very very light!
1.] Blowing on Their Face- If your sugar glider bites you, you might want to try gently blowing in their face. Sugar gliders greatly dislike that so they will learn to discontinues biting you and others.

2.] Crab Noise- If your sugar glider bites you might want to try this. Try making the crabby sugar glider sound at them. They make this sound at eachother when angry so they would naturally take this as they did something bad. :]

IMPORTANT: Don't ever punish your sugar glider when they are behaving good because that teaches them that right is wrong [vice versa?] Also NEVER hit your sugar glider!!!

This post is a year and a half old! How did you even find that?? I agree, no discipline. All it will do is make them afraid of you. There's a difference between "training" or forming habits and discipline.

I dont believe they should be punished for biting and crabbing. Unless its a big problem and theyre doing it for no reason. But if you pick them up and lets say they were sleeping and they bit you, you should not punish them for that. Theyre such a small animal, thats all wethey can do to tell you they dont like something your doing.

Haha this cracks me up, I mean the person can't even spell & we are going to take advice from him on how to bond and discipline...negative. There are many more reliable posts that explain the bonding process effectively. Discipline is a NO. I've never heard such nonsense!

I have two previously owned sugar gliders. Their previous owners have a puch for them in their cage. I can't get either of them to even come out. They make crabby noises when I even touch the bag. Should I reach in and oull them out? Leave them alone? Etc? Etc? Etc? I have no idea what to do with them right now.

hey ash, Im not an expert or anything, I adopted my colony of 4 in October, and they were a breeze to bond with. They would crab a little but now they hardly ever do ( just little Hermione when she is woken up sometimes). I can now just stick my hand into their pouch and they all click and chirp and snuggle up to me . It's one of my favorite things.

I have been fostering a colony of 5 for an aquantience, and the youngest two are under 6 months and I don't believe they have been handled much. The will crab and attack the side of the pouch when they hear my voice (especially the little girl). I have been taking it slow with them and found that, even though she will crab at me and swipe at me, she doesn't mind me touching her so much. She is just scared.

I have been a little reluctant to do the bonding pouch with them, because they are not staying with me. So I don't want to commit to the bonding process completely. But I think that the pouch might help at least get her more comfortable around people in general. she does great in the tent too. It helps bring you down to their level.

The thing is crabbing is going to happen, they are scared. You have to let them know they are safe and build their trust, it can take time. I started out having a yougurt drop in my hand and when she would bite at me she would bite a yogie. after a few times she still acts grumpy but not as scared.

speaking of.. today I saw their sleeping pouch moving so I took it out. No crab till I opened it (score one!!) fed them some yogies.. she was mildly impressed.. gave them a drink from their water bottle ( Major score!!) Everyone was thirsty(and lazy..lol), but isn't it nice when someone brings you a drink of water so you don't have to leave your bed?
