Reminders for SUGAR Group participants ….. And those who want to be

* If you have not completed the initial survey, please request one by sending an email to sugargroupsurveys@hotmail.com with “survey request” in the subject line.

* If you have received any surveys and have not returned them PLEASE do so ASAP.

* Every time you go to the vet, please take either the “wellness exam” form or the “sick or injured glider” form and have your vet complete it then return it to us.

* Please copy and send to us EVERY lab report, necropsy report or x-ray report you receive. Be sure to request these things if you have lab work or x-rays done on your glider.

* Remember that the necropsy effort is available to assist with some of the cost of necropsies and histopathology work.

* If you have lost a glider in 2009, Remember that you can purchase a memorial square on the 2009 quilt in memory of your glider. The 2008 quilt memorializes 16 of this community’s beloved gliders that crossed the rainbow bridge in 2008. Quilt Squares can be purchased from our website at thesugargroup.org .

* Breeders and rescue homes are encouraged to complete the breeder specific and rescue home specific surveys. If you have not completed these yet, please request them today. If you have, please look for a special email from us in the near future.

* Every little bit of data that you send to us is GREATLY appreciated and makes a difference in our quest to find some answers to the questions this community asks. For the future of our gliders and yours, please continue to send us data and to request surveys. THANK YOU to those of you who continue to send us vet reports and surveys!!!

* We will soon be releasing even more surveys. Please complete those that pertain to you and return them ASAP.

PARTICIPANTS NEEDED

The SUGAR group is seeking to increase our database in 6 key areas at this time. We are in need of

1) Those with gliders who have experienced or are experiencing a facial abscess

2) Those with gliders who have been treated using CONVENIA as an antibiotic

3) Those with gliders who have received one or more laser therapy treatments

4) Rescue homes (those actively taking in and rehoming gliders)

5) Breeders

6) Those with gliders who experience seizures

If you fit into any of these categories and have not already completed our survey or data sheet, PLEASE participate by requesting the specific survey/data sheet through emailing sugargroupsurveys@hotmail.com

We are in need of 100 case studies for each category. EVERY returned survey or data sheet matters and is valuable to us.

Thank you for doing your part to increase our knowledge base as needed for development of new and/or improved treatment techniques, medications, standards of care, standard norms and husbandry practices.

Have you ever wondered just how many gliders really SM? Or what percentage undergo amputations each year? Or maybe you wondered how often the average owner experiences an emergency surgery (just how prepared do you need to be anyway?). When talking to your vet, have you ever wished you could say, "well _________ is actually more common than we think?" Or "100's of gliders survive this procedure each year." ????

Well, these questions and more are some that the SUGAR group seeks to answer with our yearly incidence and census survey.

The 2009 Incidence and Census survey only takes a few moments to complete, but provides us with a great deal of valuable information for our research.

The SUGAR Group's seizure study is recently updated to further our research and data collection. If you have participated before in the seizure log, then you will notice that the biggest change is that the data sheet is now completed and returned each time the glider has a seizure episode (rather than quarterly).

If you have a glider who experiences seizures, please be sure to request, complete and return the SUGAR Group's seizure study form each time the glider has a seizure. You can request the form by emailing sugargroupsurveys@hotmail.com

Once the study form is sent to you, hang on to it for use each time your glider has a seizure. We need 150 completed forms to begin to draw conclusions and see patterns.
