Okay so I finally did it! I finally got the courage to trim up Wavern's nails! I had lost my wodent wheel nail trimmer a few months ago, and have been trying to rind a new one, but have not been able to, so I knew it would have to come to this!

But guess who was the bestest behaved girlie on earth!? Wave did not like being held in the cloth rag, and she was very squirmy, but she didn't make one crab or snort or anything! She nipped me once, lightly, but that was when I was trying to push her head back in the cloth. I gave her tiny pieces of nut to preoccupy her, and she did not like the whole pulling foot out, but she was very good about it! Very squiggly, but I think that was when she wanted another piece of nut and was trying to poke her head out. I did it myself, so I just kind of wrapped her up and pressed her against my lap to hold her still.

I was worried that she would be traumatatized (I am aware that I can't spell!) after the seven minute ordeal, but when I unwrapped her she was sitting there looking up at me with this big ol' smile on her face with the nut still in her mouth! Then she went back to eating! Whew is that a relief! I am so happy for all of the tips from this board, and for her love of nuts! And don't worry, they were very tiny pieces and used only occasionally as a treat!

YEAH!! It was probably harder on you than it was on her!! When you get her out tonight, if she's in the tent or trying to cling to something else, she may not be as sure of herself after her new manicure today!

Haha! That is so true! I will make sure she doesn't fall down when she tries to grip onto something. I'm sorry, I am laughing because you said manicure, I'm just imagining her and I going to a spa with little cucumbers on our eyes and getting manis and pedis. Of course she keeps on eating her eye cucumbers!

I took all 4 of mine to the vet this afternoon, and the vet was running late. I took advantage and snipped their nails right there in the waiting room. Even tho it was a vet's office, I got strange looks when I pulled out the furry little gray hand! Finally someone asked me what they were - said they thought I had a tiny monkey!

other than the wheel.. what should you use to snip their nails?? i dont want to use my clippers im not sure if they are sharp enough.. are theere clippers for little animals out there?

P-Nut I found a nice 5$ pair of small cat claw trimmers that have worked perfectly for Luna. I've heard some people using the nail scissors that us women like to use sometimes on our own nails. LoL.

I used the super tiny nail scissors, like the kind guys always use. And yes it was super easy, once her paw was still! Just take the tip off and it made such a huge difference! Of course I let her out last nigth and she was not exactly happy that when she went to jump on something she did this little slide. I made sure she never fell, but it was so cute! And my skin is definately thankful! No more tiny scratch marks!

My problem right now with the nail clipping (aside from having 64 paws to trim--ugh!)is that I have my new bifocals that I just can't get used to!!! I am going to try to make some trimming tracks today with sandpaper strips and landware mesh. I am starting to look like I have a herd of kittens that I attacking me on a regular basis!

OH Mollysmom, I feel your pain! I actually had them make me one pair of "just readers" for reading, and umm, well, clipping glider nails! HAHA
And I only have 12 paws to do!

I sometimes use kids safety clippers, my clippers when I can't find anything! and also I like to use reptile clippers on my two larger, fluffier boys.

When is it a good age to start trimming nails? My babies are still tiny so its really hard to get a hold on them but their nails are soooo sharp i have lil scratches all over me any ideas?

How do you know how much to clip off?

i haven't even gotten nail clippers yet i know i realllly need to i also look like i was attacked mollysmom but more like i was attacked my a cheeta lol they have ones at petsmart that are made for small animals. rabbits, ferrets, ect. they fit around the nail perfectly so im probably gonna get those and attempt it maybe not on the girls though since they hardly know me
