My mother sugar glider had her baby and hes finally oop but ive noticed she will sometimes start making a crab-hisslike noise at her joey and look like shes having a seizure. Is this normal for glider moms? or is the baby hurting her cuz I noticed she does this when hes nursing.

I don't have any experience with raising joeys, but after going to suz's site it sounds like it may be a symptom of joey rejection. Please go to this site and read up on it. http://www.suzsugargliders.com/helpforrejectedjoeys.htm

I don't think she's rejecting her joey. It is a good idea to be prepared just in case she does so please read up on joey rejection.

She is hissing because the baby is nursing and it is a bit painful. Do keep and eye on her and please make sure to give her EXTRA protein while she is nursing. This will help her continue to be able to produce milk for her baby. If she cannot produce milk then she will either reject it, or "not meaning to scare you", she may actually kill it. It is their instinct to do this as it's something they would do in the wild.

i dont think its regection because she doesnt leave the baby alone or prevents him from nursing. she just crabs and has like convulsions for a little while and then stops. i notice it when the boy is nursing.

Yeah, like I said I don't either. It never does hurt thought to read up on it just in case. I'm never one of those who say it won't happen to me because for me it always seems to be me. It won't hurt to be prepared just in case.

I think any glider owner who has a joey should be prepared for rejection just in case.

The only reason why I said that was one of the symptoms said mama will crab at joey when nursing. Like I said I really don't know, but like goldwinger said that is excellent information to have.
