I will be receiving my first pair of gliders at the end of November. I'm very excited and can barely wait til they are ten weeks so I can take them home! I've read you can take them earlier but I'm too nervous..
Their names are meeka and nina :)
I have bought a cage. It is five feet and I think it may be too big for them when they are still joeys. Should I block off the bottom part of the cage? Also, I need tips. Anything, any advice you can give me. I am just so anxious! I have compiled the list of anything I think I need and have gotten them but still feel like they wont have everything. Is my cage too big for the young gliders?
Please dont take me being anxious as a sign of not being ready. I did not make a rash decision in getting suggies. I actually waited pretty long to make sure I really wanted and knew I could provide a loving home.
I have a little kitchen made for them, and this weekend I'm working on making some no-sew hammocks and such. My Wodent Wheel is coming in sometime next week. Okay, I am rambling...
One more question- Where is the best place (and cheapest as I am on a tight budget) to get some branches and such for the cage? Should I buy artificial from a pet store? Of course I would never be confident enough to go on my own and get a tree from outside.
I know you all have a lot of experience and I just want to make their transition as smooth as possible. Any advice?

The twins at 6 weeks!
Lil blurry, but they are still too cute

Hi Arn and Welcome! Thank you for your questions, your research and your love for your new suggies.

I'm just going to jump right in here and ask you who are you're getting your suggie's from? Not being harsh but 10 weeks is still to young to remove these babies from their parents. Is there anyway that the breeder can hang onto them for at least two additional weeks. I still am concerned that at 12 weeks it's to soon but like anything it is still a little longer for them to learn the things they need to from their parents.

I've never had joey's so I can't tell you about the cage bars. Are they 1/2" apart at least. You may want to get some hardware cloth from a place like Lowe's or Home Depot and put it up in your cage until the babies are bigger. I've heard stories of joey's squeezing through the bars.

Here a link for branches:

Again I know you are excited and we are excited to have you here but I'm concerned about how young the babies are.

Good Luck, God Bless and again Welcome!

Sorry...so rude of me. I also ment to say you're babies are very beautiful.

Congrats they look like little angels! These guys have given you good info that I agree with 100%. As for the size of your cage it is definetly not too big the girls will love it. Just please get the hardware clothe that goldwinger mentioned. One of my femaled was way bigger than the 2 you are bringing home, but while she was a joey she still slipped through the bars. Once they find one way out they wonn't forget it. Until we could put her in the cage with the other we wrapped her cage in the hardware clothe to keep her in.

Thank you, It's wonderful to hear that you want to do the right things. Those little babies seem to be going to the perfect home. Continue to research, ask questions, get a good diet planned for them and I want to THANK YOU for getting two instead of just one. You are well on your way to being a great suggie parent.

Great adivse, but the main thing weather you wait 10 or 12 weeks is that they are eating and drinking on their own. What u don't want to do is take them home when they are not doing so. One of the most important things is thier diet. Find out what the breeder is feeding. If it is a good diet great if not you might want to change it. Other things to get, cranimals, monkeys in a barrel, yoggies, meal worms, dried fruit. Two good water bottles for the cage along with two extra ones. Try making or buying a kitchen. I will post one for you. They keep the mess way down. Congrats and good luck.

I love that picture of them eating next to each other! They look like there sitting at a bar! lol
And where is the best place to get the calcium and vitamin supplements? The breeder I was going to get a pair from said not to get them the glider supplements? People say so many different things..is there a way i can just keep their diet high in these areas and not have to feed them supplements?

That depends on the diet that you choose...scroll down on this page and you can read through some.

Unfortunately, you'll continue to hear conflicting info about supplementing.

They enjoy all of it. The sticks, branches and the leaves. I'd get one of the bundle kits.
