Great Topic!
First the RASCALS COLONY - they are all 14 to 16 months old except Mindy who is 9 months old. They all came to me from their original breeders.
Sassy - she is my explorer who finds all the places I need to glider proof like the corner post of the shower stall that is HOLLOW and open at the top inside part of the frame! She also showed me that she could go through a bracket (1.5 inches x 3/4 inches)under the pocket door and into the wall! She loves to open things - especially the treat containers and the battery compartment of my TV remote!
Corky - he is the spokesglider for the Rascals Colony. When Corky barks - everyone stops to listen. He also objects to missing tent time. One night he escaped from the cage while I was handing out mealies. I had come home late and did not take them to the tent. On my way to bed I heard noises in the tent and found Corky in there playing all by himself.
Mehitabel - she came to me at 9 weeks thinking she was a little ninja. Her motto was bite the finger first then see if there are any licky treats on it! She taught me patience will win over even a cranky glider. She is actually shy but you would never have guessed that with her initial behavioral issues.
Missy - She is little miss congeniality! She helped calm her cousin Mehitabel during their first weeks here. She is my most gentle and calm glider whose favorite place in the tent is sitting on my left shoulder. When Mindy was crabbing and running from every glider I tried to introduce her to, Missy was the one she first accepted. After a few days together, Missy had worked her magic on Mindy and I was able to introduce her to the remaining 4 gliders in the Rascals Colony - as long as Missy was close by, Mindy was OK with the others.
Archy - My little guy who had been raised on fruit shaped/flavored parrot food until he joined the family at 4 months old. He is also a very gentle glider who loves everyone. He is the escape artist who is always the first one to pop out the cage door any chance he gets. He gave away the last glider escape by answering the barks from the gliders still in the cage - he barked back from my bedroom when the others barked to tattle on the 3 escapees. Sort of a glider version of "Marko-Polo" made him easy to find. He was the only one that left the glider room.
Mindy Lou - Mindy is a feisty little girl (my avitar) who made it clear she wanted nothing to do with the Animaniacs Colony. She is always up front to greet me when I offer treats. She likes to hang out in the tent and watch everyone play a while before she joins in.
And now the ANIMANIACS COLONY - my rescues
Wacco, Yacco and Dot came to me from Val (Jackie Chan's Mom) in Texas via glider railroad. As rescues, they had been in at least 2 homes before making it to Val's rescue home.
Wacco, is probably 1 1/2 to 2 years old. He is a fairly small glider who LOVES his wheel and his mealies! In the tent he likes to be under things - he crawls inside toys and likes to scurry under the quilt that covers the floor of the tent.
Yacco is about 3 years old and most likely is the father of Wacco & Dot. He is my tail carrier and loves reset toys. I can always spot him in the group because he holds his tail high and curled over his back.
Dot is also about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Like Wacco, she is very small and her fur is a very light gray. Dot sometimes gets over anxious when I offer a treat and grabs at it wildly with both hands while trying to catch it with her teeth. She often over shoots and gets a chunk of finger instead of the treat. I think she had been teased with treats and she seems afraid I will take it away instead of giving it too her. Dot has come a long way and only rarely bites now when trying to take treats from my fingers.
Dolly is about 4 years old and is the newest member of the Animaniacs. She had been a lone glider for months after loosing her sister. Her previous owner no longer had time for her. I found her on Craig's List because I wanted another girl to join the Animaniacs (Mindy was offered membership in this colony and rejected all attempts at intros) Dolly is possessive of her pouch. She still crabs at the others if they try to enter HER pouch but for the last few nights she has joined Yacco in his pouch and they can be heard clicking happily. So far (only 4 nights) it seems like she will not let Dot come in a pouch with her but I hope they will soon figure out they can all share one pouch to sleep.
