So me and my girlfriend have had our male sugar glider for about a year. He started getting very nippy, and rubbing his chest on everything in sight. So as a result we went and got him neutered thinking it would settle his hormones down a little bit. Well about a month has passed and he is still biting very often rubbing his chest on everything. We play with him during the day and every night, he gets tons of love. He is a sweetheart most of the time, he just loves to nip at our fingers and hands... We never feed him by hand or anything like that so I dont know where its coming from.

I also have a female glider i just got about a month ago and she is sooooo nice. I kept them apart for the 30 days and really want them to meet eachother, but im just afraid hes going to nip at her like he does us. Any advice?

It can take more than 30 days for the hormones to dissipate. Having a female nearby can incite him to mark more. Many gliders nip while "grooming" you, and I know it can hurt a bit. Do be careful to use the same handsoap as scents can also increase the amount of biting he does. He may not nip at her, but like any intro, you have to go slowly and watch. If quarantine for her is over, you can start to swap pouches between the cages. That will take some time. Hopefully, they will start to "talk" (click) to each other. Then you can move their cages closer and eventually work up to a face to face. Just take everything slow and watch their reactions. Neutered males can still try to mate and can inflict mating wounds.

He may always be a nipper. I have 6 and out of all of them, I have one that's a nipper. He just is.

It may still be grooming. There are some VERY powerful groomers. The 2 I mentioned will bite hard on certain occasions when they smell other gliders on my arm. I always wash my arm prior to handling them and that eliminates the problem.

You have to reprimand them when they bite. Make a PSST! sound each time he bites. If that doesn't work, blow on him. This has always worked for me when nothing else did.
