Like I said in my other posts, my female has a sore pouch, but today she was being extra fussy and I saw her nip the joey so I decided to go out and by some regection supplies just in case. I bought all the needs for the joey formula on suz website. I noticed the joey was a little dehydrated so I gave him some pedialyte from a bottle. He seemed not to mind feeding from a bottle so I was wondering if I can feed him Suz's joey formula even if the mom hasnt totally regected him.Im not sure if hes nursing enough considering the mom is really fussy when he does, but would it be bad to feed the joey even when he could still be getting milk from the mom?(im also not sure if she'll end up regecting him anytime soon) I wonder if it would help her out since she crabs a lot when he trys to nurse, but I dont know if the combination of both would be bad for the joey(again, im not sure if hes even getting enough milk as he should). Any opinions would be helpful

This is more of a question than a answer...(sorry!) But I'ver heard that a joey can not "connect" back to it's moms nipple to drink milk after it has left... Is this true?

I am surely no expert and I only know what I have read about gliders, but I would think if you had a kitchen scale that you could weigh the joey on and can monitor his weight to make sure he is gaining from mama's milk he should be ok on what she can give him. If he is not gaining or even starts losing you should sumplement with the formula. Like I said I am no expert and I don't even have experience with joeys, but I do know the dr.s do this with human babies to monitor how much they are recieving.

If they become dislodged while still ip (in pouch) they may have issues with reattachment. However they do still nurse once they are oop (out of pouch)

Suz's site should also tell you how much weight you should expect to see and how to tell if they have a full belly. I'll be honest though, I'm not positive how supplementing will affect them if they are getting adequate milk from mom. I believe you can also email her directly from her site. She'd probably be able to answer that a little better. Sorry about that!

This is what I did for Dakota. I bought the booster milk and made some, about 4 teaspoons everynight. I did this the whole time even after the joeys came out of the pouch. I just let whoever drink it. I put it in a bowl sometimes with fruit sometimes buy itself. I did this so Dakota would get little extra vit/nutr. I still do it today, just not as often. About once or twice a month. And they still eat it right up. I figure why waste it use it up.
