I would just keep an eye out and make sure you have a rejection kit on hand. Her nipples may just be sore but she could also be rejecting him. I have twins that were out of pouch October 25th and she will crap at them but it's only every once in a while so I just assume her nipples are sore from them nursing. These are my first set of joeys so maybe somebody who has had more can help you a little more than I can. Goodluck!!

Anything is possible. It could be that the joey is hurting mom while he is nursing. That is what it sounds like to me, hard to see the video. I would keep a close eye on the two. In the mean time you u have the stuff to take care of the joey, if not get some, just in case.

I think it looks like she's rejecting him, though it's hard to tell for certain. I've never experienced that personally with any of my gliders. I would watch very closely, and be ready. Check on that joey often.

This doesnt look good for the joey. Is she doing this often? He isnt even 4 weeks OOP and still needs to nurse on a regular basis.
If I were you, I would get the things needed to feed him today. At this age, missing even one feeding a day is going to hurt him. Watch for signs of her biting him - look for marks and scratches. Watch for mom leaving him alone. Check to make certain he is warm.
For today, you can get some PUPPY Esbilac formula. Go to either the Vet or your local pharmacy and ask for the needle-less syringes you need. Get about 6 of them so you dont have to wash them as often.
Best of luck with this little guy. Keep us updated.

I agree it looks like she is trying to make the joey go away. Good luck to you guys. I would go to that link theyyland posted (I am pretty sure we have talked kind of before so you already had it) and read, read, read.

Ok first of all I want to say thank you to all of you who have given me advice I have went ahead and contacted Suz and explained to her everything thats been going on with the moms sore pouch and her actions toward the joey. She was very helpful and explained to me that it was not normal for her to have a sore pouch and it is most likely a pouch infection that the vet will have to look at immediatly. She also told me some sad news that I will have to remove the baby from the mom and hand raise him till she feels better unfortunatly, when I called my glider vet to schedule an appointment he said that he no longer sees gliders and gave me some other people to call. I called every place he recommended but they all said the same thing until finally one place was nice enough to tell me about a good exotic doctor. I went ahead and called, and what luck! He has examined many exotic pets and has seen many sugar gliders I scheduled an appointment on this coming tuesday. I wish it could have been sooner though. Hopefully nothing is seriously wrong with the mom and I will try my best to raise the joey myself. I will try to keep you all updated

I'm so glad you got in touch with her! She has way more experience than me but I do know my mom's both acted sore when nursing~especially right around 1-2 weeks OOP especially. I really hope she doesn't have an infection. Are they open tomorrow? Maybe you could ask them to call you if someone cancels earlier. Thank you for updating!
