I Just woke up this morning and found that the cage to my babies was open, I think that they might have pushed it open by themselves because i never use that door because it has no latch. But Tavi my social little girl was found in the bath room. She had fallen in the toilet and drowned! Oh my gosh but now her sister Tiki is by herself. i don't know what to do. i am worried about Tiki... they were so close. Any info... Please help.

what a sad day

Thank you so much everyone! I am grateful for all your comments. I am thoroughly shocked by how this happened especially since i am so anal about keeping toilet seats down. With 3 roommates its not hard for someone to leave it up though, its just so sad What can i do with Tiki now? I have heard that gliders can sometimes become so depressed over losing a companion that they stop eating and die themselves! I don't want to have this happen. Will she be alright with just my attention? Do i have to get another little glider as soon as possible or should i try and wait? And if i need one asap would it be better to get a baby or another adult?

Sorry about all the questions but i am super worried about my second baby!
Thanks

The sooner the better, because you will still have to do a 30 day quarantine..

Age doesn't matter...what matters most is that you get one that is about the same size..

You can try looking on craigslist!! Again...so so so sorry..

That's terrible new's :( So sorry... Make sure to give her plenty of TLC, and a few extra treats won't hurt her. Always remember to keep the lid down from now on!

Hope all goes well and she's OK :)

So sorry for your loss and for Tiki. I agree the sooner the better because of the 30 day quarantine. By the time you get around to introducing them it could be 2 or 3 months down the road. I would start looking immediately but in the meantime lots of TLC as posted above.

I'm so sorry for your loss. That is so heartbreaking.

There are some things you can do to prevent this in the future.

Here's an idea for a toilet ladder. That way if it ever happens again they have a way to climb out. This link tells you how to make one.

You can make a sign.. or they have stickers for sale to put on your toilet.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have found that with Boo I am getting up in the middle of the night when she barks to play with her. Lots of Love and Lots of treats. I am putting different toys in her cage and rotating them trying to keep her interested and got permission to bring her to the salon I work at..We can never replace their companion but as hard as it is right now for you please as soon as you are up to it start looking for a new BFF for Tiki. I hope this helps you..Once again I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

Every single glider on here that I've seen die from drowning in the toilet was not while the owner had them out. Of course it was an accident and it's completely appropriate to post something that could benefit everyone if it can help prevent a future death. Unfortunately, the topic doesn't usually come up otherwise. As hard as it is, posting the tragedy can hopefully help others.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I think you are getting great advise already, to spend as much time as you can w/ your lone baby, and to get another friend as soon as possible, to go through quarentine procedures...

I also think the ideas for the toilet ladder and the stickers are WONDERFUL ideas that can help lots of people, including yourself since you do have roommates, and I'm sure you NEVER want this to happen again. I know it wasn't your fault, and I hope the two of you heal quickly and are able to give your extra love to your new suggie when you find one

Is Las Vegas too far? There's a fantastic rescue there. Luckyglider (member here) runs it with his wife.

I wasn't trying to say he had the lid open while he had them out. So please don't think that. Because he mentioned he has roommates the sticker on the toilet would help remind EVERYONE to keep the lid closed at ALL TIMES. Just in case a Houdini act happened again. Just to clarify things.
