today I made an incubater to put the joey in just like 5 minutes ago when I was going to put him in there, you know to seperate him from the mom so she doesnt hurt him, I noticed his neck and it is red and hair is missing! I cant believe I didnt notice it sooner! It doesnt look like an open wound but what should i do? Can I put neosporin on it? It looks a little bloody but i dont see a cut. Man im so mad at myself I should have removed him from her sooner. Please help me! its right at the base of his neck but he doesnt seem to be effected by it, but i cant be sure. What can I do to clean it?

Yes, you can put some Neosporin on it but not the kind with painkiller in it. Suz was right to have you separate them. I guess I haven't asked but where's dad? Does he have anything to do with the joey?

I doubt the dad could have done it because the whole time shes been with the joey he hasnt done anything to help. when it would cry he would just stare at it. I saw him cleaning it one time but thats it. He doesnt show any love or hate toward the joey. I will apply some neosporin on it. Im so glad im taking him out of the cage before it could have gotton worsethanks kyro

Awwww - poor baby. Good thing you found him when you did. It sounds like the Mom is very serious about not wanting him for some reason.

Be sure to clean the wound with some sterile saline solution to get any bacteria off before putting the neosporin on him. The reason you dont want to use the one with pain killer is because if they would lick it, it will numb their mouth and tongue and they could bite their tongue.

You are his mommy now.

Keep us updated.

Oh...and don't be mad at yourself. You've been questioning it for days so you've been observant and attentive. Without knowing exactly what was going on between them, you wouldn't know what kind of action to take. It definitely isn't your fault.

I would suggest a alarm clock just like when I had my first skin kid, when they are so little they really can't afford to miss a meal when their growth and health relies on it so heavily. Good luck to both of you, you definetly have your work cut out for you. Please keep us posted we love keeping up with the progress.

so I watched the video from ur earlier thread and I have NO experience with joeys at all, but it didnt look good to me at all! It truely looked like momma was shoving baby away, and didnt want any part of nursing her joey. More then likely b/c of the pouch infection. But I was thinking...maybe she didnt attack or bite her baby, mayhbe when she was shoving the baby away from her when the joey was trying to nurse then thr joey got kicked or something, and thats where the marks came from....??I dunno....but good luck, and keep us posted!

I am sitting here, reading you post with Rocky and remembering having to make that same decision not so long ago. I started hand raising Rocky at 2 and a half weeks opp. Mom was not allowing him to nurse and pushing him out of the pouch. He was dehydrated and half the size of his sibling by the time I noticed what was happening. I didn't get much sleep for the first couple of weeks, between the worry and feedings. His incubator was right next to me on the bed so I didn't have to go far to check on him or feed. He was dehydrated, so I took him to the vet who gave him a shot of fluids to help rehydrate him faster. We did this 2x a day for the first 3 days, until he stayed hydrated on the formula. My sis was a great help taking him some during the day. Most of the time he goes with me everywhere, including work. I would pack up his incubator and take it with me. I felt like a new mom with all that I had to carry with me. My sister bought a kitchen scale so that we could keep up with his weight. He slowly started to gain weight. Rocky is now 8 weeks and a little spit fire. He prefers my sisters bra to mine and is always willing to make you smile. It is an amazing journey that you are starting on. Suz's website is a Godsend. If I can help out in any way please let me know. There are several post about rocky on here that might help you along the way. Rocky and I are sending some prayers your way!! This is a pic of Rocky from last week.

Keep reading Suz's site over and over again. There is no other like it for information on joey rejection.

You will do just fine. Keep us updated.
