Some of you have probably already read/heard about the cat infected with H1N1. I think this just points to the fact that we all need to be very good with handwashing, and keeping contact with our gliders to a minimum if we're feeling ill. Vets are surprised by this jump of species, too. You just never know!

Wow, this is surprising. Everyone make sure to wash your hands before you prepare your pet's food or interacting with your pets.

I was very surprised when I heard about this the other day on the radio, too. I don't know how serious it is for other mammals to get infected with H1N1, but there are other infections that they can get from us, too. It's just a good thing to keep this in mind. I think that as conscious as I am about infection control, I sometimes forget to keep it in mind, for example, when I am giving out treats.

Wow crazy to believe it happened in Iowa. Sorry lived her all my life and it seems like nothing ever puts us on the map. (However now that I am all grown up I can see what a good thing that is.) When I read it I was thinking ok good it seems to only be effecting animals that are cat like. Like ferrets and of course cats. Than I remembered how much cats and suggies have in common. Handwashing has always been important, but right now I think it has never been more important. Hurts me too the cat was/is 13 and may have had a condition. My kitty is getting up there in age I suppose this may put him at higher risk.

Could cats get the normal flu from people? I know that ferrets can get the regular flu, and so it wouldn't surprise me if they could also get H1N1. But I'm not sure if our gliders would be at risk, since they can't get the regular flu from us. But, it's better to be safe than sorry.

yes, im not trying to say they are sick im just saying that suggies hide it when they feel sick and are very good at it. so if u notice something different at the sliticed bit i would have a wellness check done. just in case

Here in Oregon a cat just died of H1N1. First confirmed cat death from the virus. There have also been four confirmed cases ferrets infected with the H1N1 virus in Oregon as well. Please be VERY careful around your animals, just in case.

Here's a link to the article.
