As some of you know, Abby AKA glider mommy gave me Shya sometime back. I have been trying to do intros for quite a while now. I have their cages side by side, switched pouches, switched cages and had several tent times.
Nothing has worked!! Of the 2 girls I have,Sassy is the dominant female even though Sweety is her Mom. Shya,I believe,is also a dominant female. Sassy and Shya have had fights every time they get around each other. The 1st fight Shya lost a very small patch of hair on her tail. The last time I had them together (sunday) Sassy went up behind Shya sniffed the tip of her tail and attacked her. I pulled them apart and ended up with Sassy REALLY attacking my finger. The little stinker would not let go. All I have gotten out of this so far is a few chewed up fingers from the 2 of them.
WHAT am I missing or forgetting to do? I love Shya to death, she is the sweetest thing and I don't want her to be by herself. Brian won't let me get another glider. I am thinking she would most likely do better with a male(neutered of course).
I am going to try to call Abby today, I've sent her a pm and an e-mail and I haven't heard anything from her, I hope she is ok.

Please tell me I am forgetting SOMETHING!!

I'm not the expert but it sounds like you've done everything correctly. From what I understand, some gliders can be choosey of their friends. Maybe this is the case with Sassy and Shya. It must be very stressful for you trying to get them together and getting bit yourself in the process. The only thing I can think to suggest is just give them some individual playtime for now, take a break from intros for a while, and start fresh here in a week or so. I would get some fleece blankies to put in their pouches too, and swap those from time to time. Hope it all works out for them and you!

I don't know if you have tried this or if it will work, but if the tent is something you had before Shya maybe the bathtub would work better for intros so nobody gets territorial. I don't know if it would work or make a difference, but it wouls be worth a shot.

I am also not an expert on introductions nor gliders, but my understanding is that sometimes gliders just won't ever get along. I know with horses and livestock sometimes you can mark an animal with some strong smell that is not animal and this will sometimes help with introductions, but it is not always a success. And when you are trying to have a dam take on a new foal that isn't hers you can either rub the scent of her or her foal on it to make the dam welcome the foal. I am not saying this would work for gliders, I just know my background is in livestock, so I thought I would just share any info I had on animal introductions. I hope something works out!

Thanks, I have tried everything. I don't do intros every day, I usually TRY 1-2x a week every other week. That way they have time to destress and my fingers are healed. I am a fast healer so really all I need is a day or 2, but they need more time than I do. Their cages are next to each other and all I ever hear from them is crabbing and lunging at each other.

The tent was new when I got it and Shya was the 1st to try it out, we were in there for only 15-20 min. because everything here was new for her and I didn't want to stress her. I just don't know what to do next. I have even gotten desperate enough to actually think,"what if I just let them fight it out".
STUPID thoughts I know but I would NEVER, NEVER act on that REALLY STUPID idea. So DON'T get crazy on me, I wouldn't do that to any of these girls. It just really bothers me that Shya is having to be by herself.

I forget what it is called but a while back there was some postings on a spray that will help. I don't know but you could try that. I think you can get it from suncoast.

I found it here is the link, I think its worth a try.

I am sorry I haven't been around much. We have been spending alot of time out of town and I have had sick sick kids since we have been home. I am so sad to hear that Shya isn't getting along with sassy. This is exactly what was going on with Shelby. Shana and Shya got along really well. Shana groomed Shya and they would get in the pouch together. Shelby would attack Shya at every turn. It was just heart breaking because you could see the excitement in Shya when she got to be with Shana. I don't know what to tell you hun except I totally understand and just hope that you can find her a good home with someone that will spoil her rotten. Keep me posted.

One other thing you may try, which you may have already, is getting them together during the day. If you have done this already let me know. But it just seems that maybe you might have some luck with them being more docile during their sleeping hours.

I always did the intros during the day.
Abby, I hope your kids start feeling better, there is nothing worse than having sick kids.Except when you have a sick hubby, mine gets a stopped up head and he thinks he is dying. They don't have the swineflu do they? I hope for your sake and sanity they don't. All my kids(at the same time) had the basic flu last year and I thought I would lose my mind.

I will let you know how things go and what I decide to do.

OK, I decided to re-home Shya to lady that lives 15min. from where I am. She brought over her neutered male last night(he lost his mate to cancer). He has been alone for a little while, he had signs of over-grooming on his head.
I took Shya out of her cage and pouch to see what she thought of him, it was THE CUTEST thing I have ever seen in my life. they were both 1/2 out of their pouches and sweet little Shya grabbed his head in one hand and started giving him kisses. I knew it was love at 1st sight.
I told her to check out this site and I e-mailed her this morning and gave her 2 more sites to check out. I HATED to give her up but she needed someone. I know she will be happy now and I will hopefully see her this weekend, I need to get my carrier back. Will update again ASAP.

I am so sorry to hear that you gave her away, but I do believe that this is the perfect situation. For one thing she lives close to you and hopefully the lady will let you visit her, so you don't have to think of it as you are loosing her. Also you can be a valuable resource of information to her, and you directed her to sites for information. Not only did Shya find a friend and they hit it off right away, but you are also healing a broken heart for him. Especially with thte overgrooming, he needed her. Maybe Divine Will or Destiny (whatever you chose to believe in) made your girls reject Shya so that she could help this little guy.

Please do keep us updated though!

I will definitly get updates on how she is doing,I was tickled to death to see her react with the little man. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen between any glider I have had in the past. She was really such a sweetheart and if I could've gotten a male I would have kept her.
I'll see if I can take some pics of them when I can get my carrier.

I just got an e-mail from Shya's new mommy. Shya is doing awesome with the new guy, they are very happy together and that makes me EXTREMELY happy to know she is doing so well.
By the way, Shya is now known as Flower and her man's name is Thorn. Very cute.
