many of you may know from my last posts that recently rescued 2 mated gliders. i know this is alittle early but would like to get advice early. when can i start intros with my single lil girl? im thinking after a month or so. Also im not sure i want to house them together just because with the mated pair the female is more dominant so i dont think that would work. but could they still have play time together? or would it cause my lil girl to be more lonly? my thoughts were that out of the pair (the girls poss preggo) i would introduce one of there babies to kiwi for her mate. but then again thats in a year or so. Kiwi is my first glider so she is my spoiled baby. i want whats best for her. ALSO this is just something that came to my head while typing all this. if i try and house all three together and it works, when the others have babies would it be ok to then pair them off? im thinking for kiwi another girl or a nuetured boy but im not sure. if a girl the reason for pairing them off so im not haveing 3 girls getting preggers. im not sure if i want to nueture the boy i rescued or not. havent gotten that far yet.

thanks for all the advice,

love yas much!

Hey, Tammy!

I would definitely wait thirty days, and after two clean fecal exams before you do intros. Giardia can sometimes flair up AFTER the first fecal, depending on at what point in the parasite's life cycle the first fecal exam was done. Plus, this will give you a good amount of time to let everyone adjust. Your little girl will be okay waiting a little longer.

Please, make sure that you are not cross-contaminating between cages until those two clean fecals are obtained on the gliders. Wash your hands thoroughly between cages. Do not share bedding/pouches without machine washing AND machine drying, because this will kill any potential parasites. Just be really careful, until you know for certain that everyone is completely healthy!

When the 30 days is over and a clean bill of health. One male and two females shouldn't be a problem, but If the male isn't neutered you could be over ran with joeys real fast. Read the gliderpedia on intros. Go to different sites and read up on intros.
Good luck.

I think that if they get along well enough to have play time together, they should be living together. Gliders really like to sleep in a huddle, rather than alone. If you have your male (and any possible male joey) neutered, you would have a stable, happy little family. In my opinion, that would be best for Kiwi. I had a lone male for three years (!) and since he's had buddies, he's a much happier little guy. Once introductions were successful, I could not have left him living alone, being with his friends only a few hours a day. It just wouldn't have been fair.

I'm just curious, why would you not want to neuter the little boy?

please wear gloves and be ready to separate them if they ball-up and start fighting one another. When gliders get into a big fight it is a terrible and scary thing. If you are not right there on top of them and able to quickly separate them, they can kill each other or seriously maim each other within seconds. That's why the gloves. You'll need them because if they are fighting they are biting blindly and you don't want to be afraid to break them up. Either that or fleece. be prepared. Yes, those cute, innocent, fluffy babies can go psycho and yes, yours can do that. Does not happen all the time, but we see good and bad intros having presided over dozens of them over the years.

to answer your question the reason im not sure is i have never been thru a nueture before and im a lil scared. eventually yes i know i would have to get him fixed, but its scary for me when i read about them ripping out stitches and things just as horrible.

but then again i dont want to be out ran by babies either (even tho they are soooo adorable.) i wouldnt be able to do it.

Most likely i will get him nuetured but i think i am gonna wait a month or to and get a smal thing of trust going with him just incase something were to happen.
